We had a problem, and Steve was so wonderful to give us a chance to reserve his inn at another time. He was very caring and made a bad situation better. Thank you! Can't wait to visit your beautiful place.

Booking 3 months in advance was not enough time to get one B&B for our 5 night stay. Since we had to split the trip between 2 lodgings, we chose The Blue Door for our finale. Oh the amenities! Restoration Hardware and Crate and Barrel could us this place for a catalogue shoot. We loved the elegant simplicity; dove grey walls, deep baseboards, attractive mouldings, lincrusta ceiling, Ihome docking station, gas fireplace with tile surround and hearth, Frette towels. This was Sandringham. At breakfast, Stephen dazzled us with spectacular breakfasts featuring, fresh fruit, a spiced peach puff pastry, fried egg and bacon with a sweet potato pancake, a breakfast casserole of eggs, potatoes, and herbs. There was fresh squeezed OJ everyday, and an assortment of teas, and coffee.

Room Tip: If you don't require a bathtub, you will love this accommodation (sandringham)

We hadn't been to the North Coast for several years because our former favorite inn/B&B had started to disappoint. I fFound the Blue Door reviewed in a local magazine and decided to give it a try for my husband's birthday week (it happened to fall on Labor Day this year). We were very pleased with our choice. Parking is on the street as you can find it, so be forewarned for busy weekends. You have to ring the doorbell to get in and Victor promptly answered. We were checked in quickly and given our room key to our suite on the second floor, the Kensington. The inn was bought and remodeled in late 2011. Decor is subdued and minimalist, contrary to many B&Bs, and it was a welcome change. Good sized room with a nice armoire, very comfortable king bed, TV, large bathroom, two sitting chairs, and WiFi. Downstairs you'll find coffee starting at 8:00, and wine at 5:00 or so, to enjoy in the sitting room and chat with other guests. Younger travelers may be more comfortable than older ones because you have to climb steep stairs for the three rooms on the second floor, our giant tub was very slippery (can't speak to standing showers in other rooms), and there was no close makeup mirror in the bathroom, The two breakfasts we had were refreshingly healthy and delicious. One of the best features is that they're right in the middle of Mendocino, so we walked to dinner and shopping without having to move the car. They only have five rooms and word of mouth will be spreading quickly, so reservations would be prudent. The second night we were there, drop-ins filled the inn by 5:30 or so, and that was a Wednesday night.

Room Tip: Treat yourself to one of the 2nd floor suites for views of the quaint downtown. The Kensington has...

A wonderful inn for people who like classy modern interior. The rooms are beautyful
the breakfast was great and wonderfully prepared by Steven. A work of art.
The downstairs sitting room was charming and a glas of wine was offered in the afternoon.
Thank you Steven for making our stay so lovely.

Room Tip: I think theyare beautyful. If you are a little older you may wat to choose a downstairs one.

We completely enjoyed our stay at the Blue Door Inn. The bed and breakfast was recently renovated and done beautifully and tastefully. The inn keeper, Steve, was extremely helpful and an amazing chef. They have the BEST breakfast anywhere. We will dream of his pecan french toast. We can't wait to return.

As others have stated, this place is beautiful and modern. We stayed one night in the Balmoral room which had great amenities: nice bay window with 2 chairs, fireplace, jacuzzi tub, large shower, bottles of artesian water and a comfortable queen bed with luxury linens. We were told about wine being served in the afternoon at checkin, which was help yourself bottes of decent Navarro red and white. Breakfast was served in a lovely dining room and was notable for quality, not quantity. We had 1/2 peach with crunch topping and a yogurt sauce and 1/2 small muffin topped with egg, cheese, tomato and ham, coffee and glass of orange juice. Enough for me, but my husband wanted more. No extra breads, fruits, pastries. We enjoyed visiting with 2 other couples staying at the inn during our breakfast.

What lacked for us was the usual friendliness and coddling we have received at other B & Bs. We have a fair amount of B & B experience across the US, and we enjoy visiting a bit with our hosts and learning about the area. We are used to getting restaurant and other recommendations, not just referral to a commercial magazine on the area. Interaction with the host/manager and the breakfast server was efficient and ok, just hoped for more. Despite this, we would stay here again as it is a lovely property.

Our first trip and we couldn't have chosen a more perfect place to celebrate our anniversary! The furnishings and decor were new and elegant. We stayed in the Balmoral room and the bed was like a cloud. The breakfasts were wonderful -- we had three mornings and each was excellent. We especially liked the pecan praline French toast. Our hosts were friendly and helpful. I highly recommend the Blue Door!
