“Raven Room the best”

I was here in March 2013... took a little while to write my review.... I just wanted to say that the J.D House was beautiful and the staff was extremely friendly. I had gotten sick at one of the Restaurants that they had referred me to ,and they were nice enough to get my money back from the restaurant, and on top of that ,give me money back for one of the nights at there bed & breakfast. I would definitely stay here again, the next time I'm in the area. It is a very beautiful town and the Red Woods are not that far away. Thank you J. D House!

Water Tower was quaint and sweet, until we used the firplace and was smoked out. That was when we realized there are no opening windows in there. Not pleasant to have all your clothes smell like a fireplace. Then the entire comlex ran out of water. We're talking not one little drop. It took the guests notifying the owners to get water. I was told that if the water guy couldn't make it there that night (It was around 8PM when I called him) then he would be there by 6AM the next day. So we would have had no working toilet, no shower, nothing. Fortunately, the water guy did show up that night. That experience was a little irresponsible of the inn keeper. The location is good; right around the corner from the main drag. Easy walking distance to everything in Menodocino. A bit overpriced for what you get. Breakfast was good and the different days we were there provided different choices for breakfast.

This Inn is located in town with easy access to town and Mendocino Headlands State Park. Charming and updated. Great bedding. Our room had a nice deck with a view overlooking the historic district and the sea. Ideal location for watching Sunrise and Sunset. Nice gardens and historic. Awesome!

Room Tip: Request a room with a view of the sea.

The pluses: really cool buildings decorated in shabby chic style, great location in Mendocino, beautiful view, charming gardens with amazing hydrangea plants, nice staff. The minuses: sometimes there was too much 'shabby' and too little 'chic'- the towels and shower curtain were shredded, there was a dangerously broken leg on the desk chair, & there were cob webs on all the chairs & railings on the deck. There was a broken chaise lounge on the deck. I don't mean not functioning; I mean literally broken in half! Why leave it on the deck?
The rug on the inside stairs was completely threadbare. There were no screens on the windows, so when the windows were opened for the breeze, the bugs & moths immediately flew in. There was a nice, deep bath tub with Jacuzzi-style jets, but there were no hand-rails to get out. The breakfast was ok.
Summary: this was the end of the season, and all of the above items are easily and relatively cheaply fixed. I hope they are cause it was otherwise a nice place.

The check in was very easy, friendly, organized. They had tea and brownies (buffet style) waiting for us when we checked in. The room was really clean and fresh. We stayed in the Water Tower on the side of the B & B. Just beautiful and romantic. I just loved the old Water Tower built in 1867. It was the best night sleep. In the morning, breakfast was ready, hot, and hearty (buffet style). The cook was just like Mom. The scones she made was so delicious!! I never had cheesy grits, but, the way she made them was sooo good! Me and my husband had a really beautiful and memorable time there. I highly recommend this place for a romance.

Room Tip: Water Tower.

Beautiful house with great furniture and design. The rooms we had were Port and Starboard and they were good but with no view. The service was very poor, when asked out a breakfast box as we were leaving very early the last morning they refused and said that it wasn't available. Disappointed with the service but the house is nice
