We had no reservations in Mendocino and checked a few places that were pretty high for what you got. We ended up at the Stanford Inn. We received excellent service by all staff. Our room was very comfortable with a view of the gardens and a peak of the ocean as well a fire place. Their restaurant is Vegan which we are not, since breakfast was included we ate there and is was great. We ended up eating dinner there and it was very good as well. They have a swimming pool and jacuzzi which we enjoyed as well. They provide free mountain bikes for a great ride along the river. It is really more of a resort than just a hotel with comfortable sitting areas and a fireplace with reading material etc. Afternoon tea is also free for guests. There are beautiful grounds to stroll through or just enjoy some quiet time. Great relaxing get away!

Tried to book reservation after a very bad stay at Stanford Inn. Wanting to give them another chance to do a better job at service. But, it seems that if you write a bad review, they don't let you rebook. I guess they don't like customer feedback when service aren't good.

After finding another local property not stayable, I found this wonderful location. Upscale, rustic accomodations. Very warm and cozy in a beautiful location, gardens and ocean views. Very kind staff, excellent breakfast included. It is a wellness, yoga, vegan environment. Wish I had planned ahead to enjoy all these extras.

Green Features: Very health and environmentally concerned ownership. Organic gardens, yoga and healthy activities focus, vegan food done gourment

The Stanford Inn is more than a hotel, not what I would call a resort, but in many ways so much more. This is a place that is accommodating when it comes to getting away, clearing your senses, relaxation, activity, and putting good things in your body. I believe the Stanford Inn does this very well.
I have to give the highest praise to nutritionist Sid Garza-Hillman and Chef Sadhana Berkow. Sid is approachable, knowledgeable, and a joy to talk to. We had the pleasure of doing a private cooking class with Sadhana--what a great experience! She is and full of good information! We also did the couples massage in the woods, which was a great experience.
The rooms are somewhat small, but the wood paneling is a great accent. The deck and view of the grounds and the ocean are epic. The grounds are beautifully laid out and a wonderful walk down to the Big River.
The food--wow. We are newly vegan, and I must say it's hard to miss meat with food like the Raven produces. I would list everything I liked, but I'm pretty whatever that would be ordered will be great.
So, I travel for business and spend a fair amount of time in hotels. The experience at the Stanford Inn is an escape from the ordinary and a place to rejuvenate, reconnect, refresh. I love this place, and we will be back

Mendocino is a wonderful coastal town, with a very charming atmosphere. The Stanford Inn was an excellent place to stay on our trip north. We stayed for one night, and arrived in the evening. The Inns staff was very welcoming and friendly from the girl who took our reservations the day prior to the receptionist. Whatever mood we were in after our long drive didn't matter as we felt great once we got there.

The rooms were very rustic and well decorated. We had a balcony overlooking the garden/Forest & you could see the ocean in the distance. The room was equipped with a wood burning fireplace that was prepped prior to our arrival with wood and kindling. All we had to do was light it with a match that was provided on the nightstand. There was a fridge, microwave, and coffee machine in the room. An HDTV with DirectTV. They also had free internet wifi service.

The Inn is committed to sustainable living and thus very Eco conscious. The Resturant ( "the Raven") is a vegan Resturant and all their food is such. So if you are expecting steak and lobster you won't find it here. Even though my wife and I are not vegans the included breakfast at the Resturant was very good!

They grow some of there food in the gardens on the property. The day we were there they had many activities planned through out the week. We didn't get to participate, but they had things like morning Yoga and Tai Chi. And garden harvest for the kids. They even had a few cookies on a plate waiting for us when we arrived.

The main reason we stayed here is because they had two EV charging stations for our car, which we used for free as guests of the Inn. They were even nice enough to put two cones in the parking spot to reserve it for our arrival (after a 4 hour drive).

The only issue we had was there was literally no cell phone service in the area. There was a sign on the balcony that said there were cell antennas in the chimney, but it didn't seem to work for us with AT&T service. It didn't make the stay any less enjoyable.

We'd love to stay here again and for a longer period of time in the future.

Perfectly fabulous! Extraordinary luxury on a property which gives you all of the rugged beauty of the Mendocino coast coupled with all the warmth and amenities of a 5 star hotel at 3 star prices. We loved the llamas and ravens. The prepared wood burning stove in the room was heaven. The staff was ever pleasant and extremely helpful in its guidance. My daughter, standard poodle and I were all well taken care of. Really this is a bargain in terms of all that is provided. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: The second floor is best for the view!

Green Features: I liked their eco-friendly practices. I did wish the restaurant was vegetarian rather than vegan, but we found some tasty things to eat. Plus dog could eat inside with us!

I just wanted to add my review to all of the others. I don't think I can add much more than just redundant gushing about how great this place is! I took my significant other here for her birthday this weekend and we were both floored at how wonderful everything was: The rooms (nicely appointed, with a fireplace, no less), the views (we had a garden-level with a deck – from there we could see...well...the garden and beyond that, the ocean) and the food (I'm a light carnivore/vegitari-ish and the onsite restaurant – Ravens – is vegan; the two breakfasts I had there were quite good, despite the lack of bacon – but if vegan isn't your thing, the town is a short hop away, so don't let this deter you).

Our room came with free bicycle rentals from Catch-a-Canoe (onsite bike and canoe/kayak rental) – so we were able to ride into town as well as tool along the river; we did not have time to go kayaking, though. One tip: Plan on kayaking in the morning as the winds/tides can make it unpleasant in the afternoon (or so we were told by the guy in the rental house).
We did make use of the pool, jacuzzi and sauna that are housed in the solarium – very relaxing; if you forget your swim suit, you can buy one (at least guys can) at the gift shop off of the main office. The gift shop also sells hats, wine, books, knick knacks, tchotchkes and frau fraus, should you be low on supply.

Did I tell you that we got two free chocolate chip cookies (vegan, of course) each day?

I found the service to be outstanding – everyone was friendly and helpful.

I would definitely recommend staying here and I know we will be back.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Big River Pettite Queen room on the ground floor (garden level). I was not able to...

Thanks so much for the great review, Chris, it sounds like you guys had a great time in Mendocino! We are sorry you weren't able to experience the canoes/kayaks (next time!), but glad you got to take the bikes on the scenic river trail. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future - your freshly baked chocolate chip cookies will be waiting :)
