Cedro closed, the place next door (Cafe Barrone) is taking over the space. I am only rating it low because if you go and can't get seated or enjoy the food, it's not much of a restaurant! Everyone said it was pretty good while it was open.

“Great Location and Service”
Reviewed 13 August 2012

Cozy atmosphere, have had better italian abroad but this is the best I have tried in Menlo Park. Great pastas though would appreciate a change of menu more often and more vegetarian options. Since we are regulars we would like more variety, still nonetheless good home cooked food.

“Close to Kepler's”
Reviewed 28 June 2012

Service was excellent! The calamari appetizer served as more than a meal for my sweetie. The boys ordered Caesar salads and although a good portion, seemed lacking in ingredients. My pesto gnocchi was perfect in proportion and taste. This was a very pleasant place to eat and we will definitely return.

“Meh ...”
Reviewed 6 May 2012

First time at Cedro, and possibly the last time. First, the positives. Nice location and a rather unique covered patio setting provides a pleasant environment for dinner. The dining area is relatively quiet and there's ample space between tables. Note that there's a cigar shop next door, and the cigar stench permeates the entrance to the restaurant somewhat. If you dislike the smell of cigars, you may not want to sit near the entrance.

On this particular evening, service was quite fast and courteous. In fact, service was the highlight of the dinner. The real disappointment was the food itself. The bread was "homemade," but made in a bread machine and not real Italian bread. It was served with mediocre olive oil and balsamic vinegar in little flasks. We shared an overpriced ($13) arugula salad with pears poached in red wine with cloves. Unfortunately, the taste of cloves overpowered the pears. The dressing was fine but nothing special.

I ordered one of my favorite Italian dishes, spaghetti all'amatriciana. It was a huge disappointment. The sauce was runny and extremely spicy (almost like an arrabbiata sauce), a harsh contrast to the mellowness of the onions. Instead of the prime ingredient of this classic sauce (guanciale) or even the second-best choice (pancetta), they used prosciutto. Worse still, the prosciutto was practically charred and black, with no taste whatsoever.

My wife ordered the lasagna, which was one of the specials of the day. The lasagna was homemade and very fresh, but it was quite bland and almost not edible without adding a lot of salt and pepper. So, there we are, having to mix and match sauces from a dish that is over spiced and another that has none whatsoever.

We perused the (again, overpriced at $10 each) dessert list, decided to save the money and calories, and headed home.

Is it Italian family-style cooking? Sure, it is. But it's not a particularly successful example, and it is overpriced for the Peninsula market. There are better options available nearby at more reasonable prices (like Spalti in Palo Alto).

“Great Italian Food from a Local Family”
Reviewed 28 December 2011

We have been regulars since it opened since we love the service and the food. The food is perfect Italian food. Great pastas, great fish and meat dishes. The service is wonderful since its just the right level of attention.

Its a great place for a casual family dinner, or a romantic dinner on the "patio". On weekends they have some live music (its background level) so its enjoyable, and you can have a conversation at the same time.

The location is in downtown in Menlo Center so you can easily walk to it, and enjoy the cafe nightlife in Menlo Park
