We felt as if we were in a wonderful little family run place in Japan. If you want an alternative to expensive sushi restaurants, but love Japanese food, try Gombei. The decor is very basic but the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, many families dining with children, many regulars greeted with recognition by the staff. There is a white board with the day's specials and a small but good menu. Teriyaki, tonkatsu dishes, udon, donburi, lots of homestyle food. I had one of the specials which included two pieces of grilled fish and a large bowl of nimono (mixed vegetables boiled in flavored broth. My husband had another special which had three elements, stuffed tofu, a fried meatball type dish, and some seared tuna...all lovely. And neither entree was over $12! An incredible bargain for the area. We were there on a Thursday night and the place was busy but not overwhelmed. May be harder to get a table readily on a weekend, given how wondeful it is....cc
