Eatery prices in a pleasant atmosphere. Food is blend of Korean and Japanese food, not spectacular, but quite tasty.

I happened across Juban as I was walking in downtown Menlo Park - and got their lunch special for less than it would have cost me to go to the McDonalds a couple blocks away. But this was real food, Japanese barbeque served with kimchi and rice. Well prepared, quick, and the service came into play when my sister called to say that she and her son were able to join me. It was just barely before they closed for lunch, and they went out of their way to make sure they had fresh, hot food right as they walked in the door.

Self-advertised as a Japanese BBQ, it is that, but with a twist -- you get to do your own grilling at the table. On the advice of our dinner companions who had eaten here before, we ordered the "Deluxe Dinner", which includes servings of three entree selections. We had a double order of ribeye and single order of salmon each; each ribeye serving consisted of four thin slices, the salmon serving consisted of four small (but not minute) pieces. Food quality and taste was great. Turns out this was just about perfect, since the Deluxe Dinner also included a tasty Juban salad, miso soup and sticky rice. We had sodas, plum wine and Sapporo beer for drinks, all very good. This is not fast food, since you get to grill your own meats on the grill at the table. This is an experience -- you need to be willing to enjoy the "journey." The waiter took a bit of time to get to us, and it was a bit longer before we saw the raw food arrive. The interior of the restaurant was quite nice -- plain, but with an Oriental feel. Overall, this was a unique and nice experience for each of the three generations in our party.

The family enjoyed dinner at Juban, the cuts particularly the rib eye were really good. We tried the fish, chicken, prawns and the mushrooms, they were well marinated and tasted very good with the white rice or bimbimbak (actually a Korean rice dish) Yes, we had to grill the food ourselves but that's exactly what we wanted as the meat then could be cooked to each person's preference.

If you like a spicy dip for the grilled food try the red powder chilli or the house chilli sauce, they go very well with the grilled chicken and fish especially.

Service was excellent with the staff always keeping an eye on our table.

Other reviewers are exactly correct. It's a good looking place, and you can take a date there or do a business meal, but the grill your own thing gets old, and it's pretty expensive for what you get - which means you have to keep ordering.
