“Was that an Earth Quake???”
Reviewed 30 October 2008

I generally agree with the earlier reviews - very pretty hotel, very nice service, very nice rooms (they upgraded us upon arrival), and fresh baked cookies! BUT, what the heck are they doing with a hotel that seems to sit right on top of the train tracks!!! My wife and i were sleeping and were awaken in the wee hours by what we thought was an earthquake. The bed was shaking, the dresser, the windows rattled heavily. We were so startled!! And then we realized there is a train that passes right behind the hotel and we werent even facing it. I really liked this hotel alot but cannot stay here anymore as we cannot stay at a place where we expect to be awoken in the middle of the night.

This is a very nice hotel with beautiful, but small grounds. The furnishings in this hotel are very, very tasteful and all in very, good shape. Not a bit of wear and tear on anything in this hotel. The decor is very "traditional", reminds me of a Washington DC hotel, a bit on the formal side and probably appeals to an older generations.

The grounds are compact, but are very beautiful. There is an inner courtyard that is very attractive (there was a wedding while we were there), and a very compact, but lovely pool and jacuzzy area. All are surrounded by beautiful landscaping. The outdoor furniture is lovely. There is a very small fitness center and steam room.

This hotel appears to separate itself from the larger chains with its personal service. The staff is exceptionally attentive, everyone from the bellstaff to the restaurant staff. They seem to thrive on providing very specialized service.

Small nice extras: lovely ("to die for" homebaked cookies at 9:30pm) and a kitchen that is willing to take special orders.

A very lovely hotel that is well managed and has a great staff...not your run of the mill chain hotel.
