This tall, white, ornate courthouse is lit at night and is truly a beautiful site. Many community event are held on the lawn. There are some homeless persons at the park there, but not a problem.

“Lovely Old Courthouse worth an afternoon”
Reviewed 31 July 2013

This historical courthouse is well preserved and is set in a nice green park. The courthouse will remind you of a wedding cake and is so pretty lit up at night. I believe in the 70s they still had some court proceedings here. Now there is a mixture of permanent displays and temporary exhibitions that are nicely curated. The upper floor has an impressive courtroom of the past intact. The gift shop, run by volunteers, has an impressive selection of books related to the area, watercolor notecards by local artists and many other specially chosen things that you might want to take home. A Mother/Daughter tea held here yearly is a very popular event that sells out quickly.

“Nice tour, especially at Christmas.”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

I visited this museum for the first time during the Christmas season. It was wonderful to see all the Christmas trees which were decorated so differently by organizations and schools throughout the town. What imaginations these groups have! I returned to see it once again, when the trees were removed, just to enjoy the history of the area. It's a great tour, the docents are friendly and full of great stories. It's a good place to take the family and best of all it doesn't cost you anything.

“Christmas Enchantment”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

The Courthouse Museum is a lovely place, particularly during the Christmas season, when local groups are invited to decorate their own tree for display in the museum. In addition the various rooms shed light on Merced County's history. The gift shop has books, recipes and photographs of the city past and present. It's not a fabulous museum but it's worth an hour of your time if you are waiting for the bus to Yosemite. And the courthouse itself is a beautiful wedding cake of a building well worth a photograph all on its own.
