“Marriott Hotel, Merced, CA”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2012

We stayed at the Marriott Hotel in Merced for several nights while we visited Yosemite. The hotel was very nice, clean, and affordable, the room spacious. The gym had treadmills and free weights, there was a heated pool and spa, all of which we enjoyed. There was no complimentary breakfast, which was disappointing, but the Bistro did have very good breakfast choices. We took the Yosemite shuttle to the park twice, a 3-hour drive each way, since the shuttle made numerous stops along the way. It was either the shuttle or fighting the traffic and packed parking lots in the park by driving ourselves. We would definitely not chose to visit Yosemite during the busy season again.

Room Tip: If you want to visit Yosemite, chose a hotel closer to the park.

ON the way to Yosemite National Park from San Francisco we decided to divide the trip in half so we'd have a full day at the park on the day of travel. The Marriott Merced is easily reached off the main highway and is a perfect stopping point to stay overnight. The standard Courtyard room was in good shape and the staff was accommodating. Breakfast lounge was clean and offered a decent fare of breakfast options. As a one stop visit, it met our needs very well.

Marriott is always consistantly a great product what ever the level of hotel you choose. We stayed at this Courtyard while setting up ous son at U.C. Merced over the weekend and it served the purpose. This one does not include breakfast, but they do have a small bistro type with a Starbucks in lobby. The pool is indoor which would be nice in cold weather, but was not benificial during our summer stay, quite hot and humid in there with water temp too warm. Air conditioners are in wall (not ducted) so it was rather noisy, but room and beds very comfortable. We also stayed at a Fairfield Inn in Tulare on way up and that was nice as well.

The hotel has been recently remodeled, and it showed - everything was very modern and new. Very nicely appointed lobby, nice staff and very good service, hotel and rooms clean. Rooms are good size and quiet considering hotel is right up against Hwy 99. Our stay included a breakfast; choices between waffles and scrambled eggs and included Starbuck's coffee (a nice plus). Don't love the wall AC, but it did keep the room cool from the Merced heat. Would definately stay here again.

Room Tip: Request a room on a top floor at the end of the hallway, away from the elevator.

The Courtyard is a good choice if you want to do day trips into Yosemite, but still have the comfort of a bed at night. It's located about an hour and half to the national park, and the quaint suburban city offers fast food dining (In-n-Out, Taco Bell, etc.) as well as some small mom and pop restaurants (if you like Thai food, try Sam Cafe). The room was clean and check-in and out were fast. They allowed us a late check-out (1:00) at no extra cost. We went in August during a heat wave and were looking to find some comfort in the indoor pool. However, when we stepped into the pool room, it was sweltering hot!!! Even hotter than outside, which was in the 90's! The pool water was very warm, and there were no towels even after I had called the front desk to make sure we didn't have to bring our own. When we asked for some from the worker who was in the laundry room (the door was open), she was unresponsive and expressionless. When another person brought them in, we commented on how hot it was, and he smirked and propped open the back. In the morning, we came downstairs for some coffee, but both caffeinated thermos were out. We asked the front desk for help, and she didn't really have a sense of urgency in helping us. We left and went to Starbucks instead.

After reading reviews decided this would be the best place to stay in Merced and closest to Yosemite. After arriving in Merced, decided this was truly the best place to stay. Nice staff, clean large room, guest laundry, no pets allowed, near restaurants. Would recommend this hotel when visiting Yosemite or in the Merced area.

Unsurprising deco and design, however comfortable room and cheap but good breakfast. The air conditioning is a little noisy and the lift dramatically slow (choose ground floor!).
Not too far from city center and restaurants.

Room Tip: Ground floor, or be prepared for long conversations in the lift
