St Bernard Lodge is conviently located mid-way between the Park Visitor Center at the SW entrance and the SE entrance via Chester. Although the road through the Park was not open the whole way, we found plenty to do over two days with the help of our gracious hostess Sharon. She even suggested a beautiful drive to take on our return to San Francisco. The breakfast meal included with the room included lots of delicious choices. You may have dinner at the Lodge with a reservation or use some of the host's suggestions. I was a little concerned about the lack of private bathrooms, but we never encountered a wait during our stay. With a full house, that may be different. Overall I would definitely recommend staying here while visiting Lassen National Park.

We loved the St. Bernard. The location was perfect to enjoy a visit to Mt. Lassen, exploring the Lake Almanor area, hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, visiting other local towns and lakes and finding great places to kayak. The food was delicious and plentiful. We shot pool, played darts and hung out in the hot tub. It was the perfect end to our vacation, until... On our last night, Friday, July 2nd at 6pm our car broke down... entering into a holiday weekend.

Everyone was booked full and no car rentals to be found and our car wouldn't be evaluated until Monday. We can't thank Sharon and family enough for talking us through options and ultimately beating the bushes to find us a place to stay and a car to drive while waiting out the weekend. Instead of a weekend full of worry and fret, we were able to enjoy it as an extended, tho unexpected, vacation. We made the most of it! Enjoyed our "bus" ride with Steve to Susanville to pick up a car. Explored Eagle Lake and miscellaneous museums and monuments. Watched a small town 4th of July parade in Chester and enjoyed the firework display over Lake Almanor. Can't say enough about the people and the area. Thank you for taking care of us, St. Bernard Lodge. We will be back!!

The plusses: beautiful setting, rustic and relaxing. Owners are friendly and accommodating. Great breakfast that's almost impossible to finish--kept us from going hungry pretty much all day. Good internet connection.

The minuses: Shared bathrooms which is not clearly disclosed on the website, although perhaps one should expect this at a B&B--on the other hand I've stayed at others with ensuite bathrooms. It was nearly impossible to regulate the water temperature on the shower, and there was only one shower. As another reviewer noted, the walls are paper, paper thin and you can hear every single word uttered by your neighboring guests. I don't know whether the other guests were coached to try to control their noise or not. (This has been my experience elsewhere in similar facilties.) Our room was next to one of the two bathrooms so every time someone got up to use it, you knew it--and one guy decided that this was his particular night to clog the toilet. He also apparently got lost on his way back to to his room and ended up pounding on our door at 3:00 am demanding to be admitted.

Bottom line, I got very little sleep because of the facilities and noisy guests.

My father and I stayed here for two nights in May 2010, to visit Lassen Volcanic Park.

The B&B is excellent, hosts Sharon and Jim really make a great effort to welcome guests and make them feel at home. Jim's cooking is superb, all meals (breakfast, hors d'oeuvres, and dinner) were delicious and of hearty quantity.

The B&B has a well equipped games room (pool, darts, cards) and WiFi internet. The deck/patio outside is nice to sit and enjoy a wine in the the evening.

If you are visiting Lassen, bring snowshoes if you plan to hike in May/June. The park has superb hiking and Nordic or cross country skiing (no lifts, hike up and ski down).

Overall, highly recommended. We will be back.

What a way to relax! The splendor of the surroundings, the cleanliness of the Lodge, the friendliness of the Host and Hostess (owners of The Lodge, Jim and Sharon), the food - all top notch! A little over four hours from Marin County but a delightful drive. The town people and shop owners were delightful and helpful. Thanks to all for a fabulous weekend.

We just returned from the most wonderful 3 day/2 night stay at St. Bernard Lodge. Invited by friends to share a special, snowy New Year's celebration, we were amazed by the warm hospitality of Jim and Sharon, the innkeepers. The Lodge, although upgraded with modern conveniences, retains its early 20th century charm. Every need of ours had been prepared for in advance; every request was graciously fulfilled. This is a bed and breakfast, not a hotel. Check their website for the details. We are planning a return trip!

My husband and I needed a get away before the hectic school year began, as we both teach elementary school. We rode our Harley from Reno and pulled into the drive...we were a little cautious, as the property looked like it was being renovated....walked in and immediately felt like we were at home. The owners were amazing...cooking, visiting, taking time to teach us cribbage. The food was absolutely amazing...we ate so much while we were there...all well worth it!! Quiet, great place to hide away for awhile. We tell all of our friends about it...one of the best short getaways we've ever had...we'll come back!
