We have been to Sushi Garden numerous times. It is the best sushi in Modesto (and we've tried a few) -- fresh and delicious! This is not only a sushi restaurant. They have combo plates -- chicken, beef, seafood, which come with soup and salad, and other choices. They offer a variety of appetizers if you're very hungry. The presentation on the plate is always well done, very appetizing and appealing. Service is good, and staff is friendly. The hostess is a doll! It's not a huge restaurant, and the tables are closely put together, so there's not much privacy. There is a small sushi bar, if you prefer. We used to dine in, but now get our food to go. I highly recommend Sushi Garden!

I work at times nearby so our group frequently travels here for lunch, Most of the time the food is great, Prices are reasonable, the fish and service though at times is not the best at getting the orders right the first time. It has taken some of us several times, to finally be able to order something the first time and get is exactly right. Keep in mind though, if you are going to order directly off the menu, this place rocks, however if you are going for your own type of experience, just don't go in with your hopes up you can explain it and get it exactly the way you want it.

When you’re 120 miles away from an ocean, sometimes mediocre maki makes the cut. If you’re a fan of tempura heavy rolls and spicy mayo sauces, Awesome, you’ve found your new favorite sushi place. If not, too bad… the entire menu is tempura based, and you’ll be hard pressed to find anything that is not fried and 10-14 dollars. You need to like rice, and be confined to the Modesto/Stockton area, but given those criteria, Sushi Garden may be a solid dinner option.
Service made an order error even after she repeated the order - we received a Futo Maki instead of a Tempura Philadelphia roll, however the kitchen was very willing to correct their mistake. Servings were large, but rice heavy, leaving very average fish portions.
The wine list was composed of Gallo popular and premiums (no complaints), but saki was limited to no-name hot and no-name cold.
Service was good, aside from their error, and overall proved that fish can be found far from the shore.

My first sushi experiences were ten years before I found the Sushi Garden. And that's why there was a ten-year gap-- I tried a few times back then, but absolutely disliked the food. When I went to the Sushi Garden, though, from my first steps in I was impressed. The decor is simple and elegant, and the hostess always has a beautiful smile and warm demeanor. The staff are polite and professional and service is quite fast. In fact, I've had several meals here during the work day and was able to make it through an entire meal at a fairly relaxed pace and with three other guests inside of 40 minutes. And that's not even getting to the food, which was amazing!

Sushi Garden provides a broad variety of sushi rolls and sashimi, udon, tempura, and katsu meals, and also teriyaki and sesame chicken options for the uninitiated. A very delicate miso soup is served pre-meal, and their edamame and gyoza (potstickers) are always nice as appetizers. Those who are new to sushi rolls have several options that have cooked rather than raw/fresh seafood, like the tempura roll, spicy shrimp-eel roll, and the salmon tataki roll. For the more experienced, there is a HUGE assortment of rolls topped with every kind of seafood imaginable, plus delicious tobiko (roe, or fish eggs)-- some are even jalapeno flavored!!-- and amaaaazing special sauces drizzled atop the roll. You may ask for the roe to be on the side if you are with reluctant eaters. ;)

Add to the above mentioned great atmosphere and delicious food are the prices, which are completely reasonable. We've never been disappointed, and each time we go I try at least one new dish. Simply perfect!
