Hyatt Regency is a great place for those visiting the Monterey / Carmel area. It's a resort, but also a nice "hub" for those who want to explore the Peninsula.

The Good
- Lots of resort type amenities: golf course, spa, pools, fire pit with s'mores kits, giant chess board, table tennis, etc.
- Nice restaurant and lounge
- Great staff
- Great for families
- Convenient location - exit to highway 1 is 2 minutes from hotel

The Not So Good
- I can't think of one.
- Not "ultra luxe" compared to other offerings in Monterey, but definitely above average.
- Room service is just ok

Room tip: For families, ask for a room in Building 5 by the pools. For the rest, ask for a room overlooking the golf course--so pretty!

Online the hotel looks beautiful, however the "outdoor" feel was unimpressive. Hotel rooms are set up more like a motel and are all outdoor. Carpet outdoors was dirty, dingy and there are no elevators (difficult with luggage). The wall paper in the bathroom was ripping. Overall the beds were nice and comfortable. Overall staff were friendly except our original host. The front desk receptionist "Dee" was rude when I questioned the $50 a day deposit (was only explained on the phone and by her as $50 deposit which seemed as only 1). She became agitated and rude and did not know handle her frustration. She offered no alternatives and simply offer a "im sorry" which was not genuine. The business center is a joke which charges you another arm and a leg to use. Gym is nice, however is downstairs and doesn't seem very "safe" for a woman to be by herself. Overall If this was not a work trip I would have already checked out.

This may be as basic as Hyatt Regencys get. As a Hyatt Diamond member I was unimpressed, even allowing for the property's relatively low category 3 rating. The buildings appear cheaply built, with thin walls and floors. The Regency Club is utterly unimpressive. A good location for those who wish to golf there, but otherwise not convenient to much of anything other than the freeway. A typical Hyatt House offers a better overall experience, in my view.

I am assigned a room on the second floor and it is spacious with high ceiling. The hotel has given me a room with two queen beds although I have booked a room with kings bed. I did not request for a change as I was too tired. They served starbucks coffee at the dining area. The golf course view from the dining area is great.

The Monterrey Peninsula is awesome with the ocean view and the fog that settles over the inland. This is a great location only minutes from the Laguna Seca track where I stayed for the American Le Mans Series sports car race in April of 2012. Good friendly service with well maintained rooms. The sports bar in the motel is an excellent plus. This is a golf resort but I did not have an opportunity to play during this visit. I was expecting southern California to be a bit warmer in April than it was. Lesson learned, bring warmer clothing for the early morning and late evening...
