Really nice budget motel. Very helpful and friendly staff, nice rooms-- the upgraded rooms are *really* nice. Most importantly, very affordable for Monterey, especially when you consider the free parking.
Location: Yes, it's a long walk to the aquarium, but there's a nice pedestrian/bike trail that runs along the coast and makes the walk much easier. Easy walk to Fisherman's Wharf, the Presidio, and the Convention Center, where you can catch the free tourist shuttle bus up to Cannery Row. By car, it's very easy to get back to Route One, which is nice for day trips.
Food: Our only big complaint was that the on-site restaurant was closed. It's apparently been closed for awhile, but the AAA listing hasn't been updated.
