Dont get me wrong, I like these wharfs. But when you have seen some of the best in the country, a standard gets set that can be tough to meet. The wharf at San Fran is tough to beat and compared to that, Monterey is average. The area of Monterey is beautiful and living there is tremendous but its a touristy location that is just ok as far as wharfs go. Fun and worth a quick visit.

Nice for a stroll but typical tourist gift and shops. Lots of candy shops and restaurants. Public bathrooms at the end of the wharf are spotless clean.. Nice observation deck on the end of the wharf.

We ate at the Wharf, which is pretty much food and gift shops. We did find an abundance of otters and sea lions swimming out in the marina, and THAT was more entertaining than whatever was going on at the Wharf. It IS quite easy to get to, and you can access the waterfront walking path nearby, so it's a good visit.

On a side note, if you are hungry and like chowder...walk up and down the Wharf a few times and take all the free chowder samples you can get. Beats paying for lunch of dinner! Haha!

Just another overpriced shopping strip mallish sort of atmosphere. Same stuff you can get anywhere but at an increased price. Had a cookie and drink at the nestles store which had me thinking I should sell my own cookies which taste much better than theirs. whilst paying a rather large pigeon came running up the glass counter top flapping it's wings. The sales girl screamed and yelled "someone get it out of here" We laughed and thought to ourselves, "hope it hasn't pooped on our cookie"

Touristy. Cheap junk shops. Lots of competing restaurants trying to lure you in. Maybe we missed something.
