“Relaxing drive with stunning views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 January 2012

The 17 mile drive should be experienced at least once. The views are spectacular! The drive covers Del Monte forest, the south coastline and the west coastline. The south coastline is calm and includes the famous Lone Cypress. The west coastline is colder, windier and more turbulent. The west coastline also has walking paths and picnic areas.

Time permitting, stop at The Inn at Spanish Bay on the west coastline. There is a huge outdoor patio with fire pits. You can enjoy the patio without having drinks. It’s also a great place to watch the stunning sunsets while listening to the bagpiper. Make sure to take the scenic walking path just past the patio through the golf links toward the beach. It’s never crowded and there are many opportunities for some great photographs.

We also like to stop at the Pebble Beach Lodge. You can walk out to the 18th putting green while enjoying the views of Carmel Bay. There is also a gas station, bank, and deli across the street from the Lodge.

There’s a $9.50 entrance fee, but will be refunded with a $25 purchase at one of the shops or restaurants. Motorcycles are not permitted. There is no fee for bicyclists. You need to enter at least an hour before sunset. Once it is dark, it is difficult to navigate through the area since there are no street lights.

“Gorgeous views of houses, golf courses, forests, and the beach! BUT BEWARE: it's not always open to the public”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2012

A little pricey at $9.50 to get through the gate, but still some amazing views. We tried originally to go just after sunset (about 5:10pm) and were turned away at the Pacific Grove Gate. The guard said the road was closed to tourists, even though I never read anything anywhere about the road only being open to the public certain hours.

“BREATH TAKING VIEWS”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2012

The drive costs $9.50, and is WELL worth it! You will experience views that are quite breathtaking with photo opportunities along the way with established parking spots everywhere. They give you a Map of significant points along the way. It is an easy drive with signs along the way. Another rest stop is The Inn at Pebble Beach - a historic site and great for photo opportunities alos along the 18th hole! There are magnificent homes along the entire drive, beautiful cedar trees, gorgeous rocks and an amazing coast line!

“Not worth it”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2012

Visited Monterey and decided to do the 17 mile drive. It was a big disappointment. The stopping points (restless sea, china rock, etc.) were clearly created just to make it look like there were many highlights to see on this route. Their were not. The only true spectacle is Lone Cypress. Besides that, you will see some nice houses. If it were free, I'd give it 4 stars. But because of the fee, I would expect more. And it was not worth the cost when the coasts of Monterey, Pacific Grove, and Big Sur are adjacent and as pretty or prettier. If you are a golfer you might appreciate being in Pebble Beach. I did not.
