Just about to check out of the Abrego having used it as a stop off on our way to LA. fabulous hotel with lovely spacious modern rooms with every facility you would want. Great staff, only minus was a late check in time of 4pm but we just went for a walk around Monterey to pass time. Free wifi was a plus & good location made it easy to walk into town for dinner.
Would highly recommend staying here. Great value for money.

The Hotel Abrego staff are exceptional and always go the extra mile to accommodate us. The hotel is clean, completely renovated and beautiful. The rooms are large, bright and comfortable. The food is excellent and reasonable. Close to restaurants the pier and shopping.

Great place, better than expected. Got upgraded upon arrival. Nice location, closed to downtown & Cannery Row.

As a summary, this hotel is THE least soundproof we've ever experienced. Noise (at least in the building behind the main one) travels through the floors, down halls, and through walls like its happening in your own room. If you're not on the top floor, its like elephants are above you. In our first room, the ice machine was not only loud, but add that to the problem of noise and you've got yourself a loud problem if you're at that end of the hall (we were). The hallway noises are seemingly amplified in our room(s). We also had our lovely gas fireplace/heater having an alarm-clock noise all night long no matter what button we pushed. The next day we were moved to a different room which brought about a new sets of noises all night long. The outside door below us doesn't lock (when we told an employee he said "Its been broken a long time") and without it latching, it just bounces and bounces until if finally closes. It is louder in our room than it is at the and it is heavily used. We also have a connecting room and ... there is NO sound barrier. With its self-proclaimed "boutique" status, indeed there are a lot of taupes used in decor. However, our room doesn't even have a desk or a chair, and the towels are Super-8-esque although there are plenty. We might also recommend the arched/curved shower curtains for the standard tub - small things like that would definitely elevate the decor. As for breakfast, it is a mini-buffet for $10 a person. After day 1, we just headed to Denny's across the street.
What I can say that is positive is that the hotel is clean, staff is nice, beds are comfy. It is accessible to everything in Monterery. Having driven up the street to the left of the hotel, it does seem like this is one of the more quality options other than staying right on the coast for more $$. I think the noise factor really overshadows the fact that the lodging itself is more than acceptable.

Room Tip: If you're in the building behind the main one, ask for top floor

Stayed here on a Living Social deal which included dinner for two.

The rooms were gorgeous. My mum and I were going to share a bed but they gave us a room with two queen beds at no extra charge. There was a fireplace in the room as well as a coffee maker.

The beds were really comfortable, towels were abundant.

There's a pool but it was too cold to use it, being December. It looked like it was heated, though.

The menu wasn't extensive. There were delicious starters. There was a good pizza menu. The pizza I had was delicious. Other options included burgers and tacos.

I bought a deal from online; the deal covers one night stay, dinner for two, and a bottle of wine. Our stay was pleasant but It's a little noisey from guest upstairs, I can hear squeaky noise from the ceiling whenever the guest walk. The room was very clean, spaces, and modern. My complaint is that there's a huge puddle in the stairway and we have to jump over the puddle when we go and back forth to our room.

The lobby area is really nice and staff are friendly. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant, the food was ok but we had to wait a long time to get our drinks. The restaurant service is a little slow but the waiters were nice.

This hotel is very conveniently located to shops and restaurants near the heart of downtown Monterey about a 10 minute walk to the water and the wharf. The staff was friendly and helpful, offering a great suggestion for a local breakfast spot (First Awakenings at the Tin Cannery). Our hotel room was on the 3rd floor in the building adjacent to the lobby building. The room was very nice and clean. Our room featured two queens with a fireplace and desk, a mini-fridge, coffee pot and a balcony over looking the pool. According to the staff, none of the rooms offer an ocean view. There was an extra vanity and sink just outside the bathroom, which was nice and very useful. Other amenities included a hair dryer, robes and free Wi-Fi.

Our package also included dinner for two each night so we ate in the hotel lounge. The food was quite good. We loved the thin crust pizzas and the crab cakes. The fish tacos were OK.

The only annoyance was that the hotel had to make two separate reservations for our two-night stay and originally could not put us in the same room for both nights. I called a week before our stay and they were able to ensure we wouldn't have to move to another room the second night. However, when we checked in, we still had two separate reservations for the same room, so we had to re-register the second night, had fill out a second registration form and were given two new keys for the second night. It seems they could figure out a way to streamline and improve this process.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the second or third floor.
