Our arrival at this hotel was following a mega drive to Monterey from Las Vegas, and the initial check-in process was straightforward and without issue. We collected our keys and went to view our room before moving all our baggage in. This proved to be a very wise move as the room was not suitable at all and not what was expected. We had telephoned Travelodge prior to booking to ensure this was two separate bedrooms with a shared bathroom. The reality was a bedroom and bathroom with an adjoining room, meaning access to the bathroom was through the other sleeping area. We returned back to reception and following a lengthy, drawn out and frustrating conversation we ended up with two adjoining rooms which would prove to be adequate. The rooms were located on the first floor, large and spacious, large glass sliding door onto a balcony, TV, fridge and the usual bathroom facilities. The decoration of the rooms, and the building in general, was tired and in need of an overhaul to bring it up to the standard of other similar hotels. The bed was very comfortable and provided a very good night’s sleep which was fortunate as the hotel is located on the flight path into Monterey airport. Again, fortunately there were no overnight flights, but there were early morning and late nights flights which passed fairly low.
The hotel did offer a buffet style breakfast which was nothing to get excited about, and which appeared to get cleared away earlier than expected. Coffee, muffins, cereal, bagels, cream cheese, hard boiled eggs, fruit juice and bananas, oh and sliced bread for toasting. Told you it wasn’t exciting. Again, using my usual rating process of whether I would choose to stay here again, on this occasion it would be a resounding NO.
