We booked this place because it the reviews were extremely good! I got upgraded to a King Room because I signed up to be a Club Member for America's Best Value. We were in Rm 223 upstairs at the corner.

The room was spacious and the bathroom was nicely decorated. It came with a table and two chairs along with one by the door. The 27 inch tv was good until we kept losing picture on one channel (I'd blame network and not tv) Despite the fact that is was very windy in Monterey that day the walls, the roof and the door shook and settled a lot during that night. I have to say that there were a few things I was unsure of now even after the good reviews.

I discovered pieces of hair in the bed linens and then I also discovered "sand" in the linens by the foot of the bed.

When the bathroom downstairs is in use the noise and vibration can be heard and felt through the floor. (You have to close the door so it won't be so annoying)

Since the stairs are built right onto the side of the wall we can hear people up and down the stairs.

The door has a gap (see picture) which cold air and sound came right thru. (I recommend putting a towel to muzzle the sound and keep cold air out)

Lastly the beds were on the uncomfortable side and it felt cheap, but I understand the meaning of "best value inn"

This place is decent. It was probably just the room I got. I would recommend it for the price and location.

Recently I have spend two nights is Americas Best Value Stage Coach Lodge in Montery en route from Los Angeles to San Francisco. It is a simple motel-accommodation of which there are many in the USA. The check-in was quick and efficient, the rooms were clean and had a the basics. A pity that there was no computer to go on-line though. There was a breakfast, but that was very simple to. And I didn't use the swimming pool because it was very cold in Montery with the fog coming in from the Pacific nearly every day. The center of Montery (if you can speak of one center) is a twenty minute walk and Fisherman's wharf is a litle further. Montery itself is a cheap alternative to Carmel and an excellent base to drive along the beautiful coast and take the 17 mile scenic drive, provided the fog lifts at some time. During my stay, it didn't. But, fortunately there are some lovely pubs that offer more than enough compensation.

Not expensive for Monterey, but basic and clean. Nice staff, not really a breakfeast. For a huge, good cheap breakfeast ,try Randy's sandwich shop, close at 1193 10 th street.

Very good for few nights stay. Very clean, nicely refurbished and very well tended. WiFi Internet in the room is ok. Location is just 4 minutes driving from the Wharf. Don't rely on breakfast, there is actually no breakfast: just some poor coffe, some juice and spongy muffins dispensed in the micro lobby and to be eaten inside the room. Price is ok considering Monterey high standards. I'd recommend.

There are a number of good things I can say about this hotel but the main one is the location. It is a short walk into the town centre and wharf and therefore makes this place good value for money.
Secondly the room was spacious and clean and the free internet access worked ok.
Parking was great - right outside our room.
It has a small pool which although we didn't use it, it looked fine.
However, the hotel website says that breakfast is served daily - we weren't told where this happened when we checked in but I had assumed from other reviews that it was little more than coffee and pastries so didn' pursue it and ate breakfast in town (at a great place called Rosine's on Alorado street).
We also asked for extra pillows but this was after shortly 9.30pm and were told that the office was closed and they couldn't be provided until the next day which was a bit disappointing.
We were provided with a tourist map which was useful.
We found out (from a waitress in Rosine's) about the free trolley bus between town and Cannery Row which we found very useful as tourists to the area.
This is an ok place to stay - good value for where it is and what you get. I've rated it average - it's probably better than that - but I wouldn't go as far as saying it's very good - but it's ok.
