Owner description: For thousands of years people have made their living fishing the Monterey Bay, beginning with the Rumsien Ohlone, the native people of Monterey. From abalone to rockfish, everything was fished and the Monterey Bay was a multi-cultural stew. This entertaining tour led by noted fisheries historian and author, Tim Thomas, will take you back in time to explore the history of the fisheries of Monterey Bay and the people who made it Monterey famous.

My wife and I recently took this tour and it was an absolute delight. Timothy had the most extensive knowledge as, well as entertaining presentation, we've ever experienced. This is a don't miss. You learn more about the history of this area than you would reading an entire textbook. He is a fine guide and extremely personable. I will recommend this to all my friends who come north from our area in Southern California. You can't come to Monterey without having had this tour.

My wife and I were blown away by the comprehensiveness of this tour and Tim's first-hand knowledge of some of the heroes of the story of Monterey! Tim provides a truly multi-media presentation with professional expertise as a historian and keen insights into what made Monterey such an important part of California history. No visit to Monterey would be complete without taking Tim's tour. It really was a high-point of our vacation!!

This 2 1/2 hr walking tour of Monterey's cannery row gives you the whole story from an historian who knows every detail and interesting story of the fishing industry that made this area in Monterey known as Cannery Row. When walking through this area on my annual visit, I have never noticed the placards and original buildings that still exist from the heyday of this sardine-producing area. This tour gives you a feel for the life and times of the various populations taking their turns at catching the squid, salmon, abalone and sardines that each occupied their time in history. Tim brings out various artifacts and product samples that bring this era to life.

Tim embodies the best qualities of a guide -- he is passionate and knowledgeable about his subject (in this case, Monterey history and culture), he is friendly and approachable, and he is skilled at communicating in an engaging and interesting manner. I learned so much about Monterey's colorful and fascinating history while on Tim's tour last weekend, and the hours flew by. I recommend this tour to visitors and locals alike. (Thank you, Santa Cruz MAH, for organizing this.)

We took the cannery row tour and Tim was amazing! He takes you to spots where the history was made and tells the wonderful stories behind them. He's done so much thorough research over the years that he tells stories like he knew the significant people involved, and sometimes he really did! Great binder of photos and dedicated research to supplement his walking tour.
