Our pre Thankfsgiving night in Monterey.. Was suggested the place to go... See & eat .. We were fortunate to be able to sit in beautiful conservatory glass room... Beautiful at night but must be even more so during the day..... We had a wonderful dinner and all the reception & wait staff were very kind & gracious ... Will come back and recommended... Or at least go & take the tour !!

We are here for a conference, like thousands of others. The restaurant looks like a tourist trap. But I check the reviews and they suggest the bar menu. We walk in with another casually attired couple and are treated like royalty. Although we are handed way too many menus, everyone is especially hospitable when we say we are interested in the bar menu. The general manager, Bryan, whom we meet later, makes a point of making us feel like we are his most important customers. We have lovely drinks and bar food, which is what we were looking for, delivered by a most attentive server, who made sure our orders were in, on time on without delay. We tip appropriately to people who have been served a first-class meal. Everyone wins! Well done, Sardine Factory! There is a reason you have been in business forty years.

I try to visit the Sardine Factory each time I am in the Monterey area. Service is attentive and the food is consistently good. On this trip, my wife and I sat in the all-glass conservatory room in the back, which was very nice. I had the roast chicken entrée, which was juicy and delicious. She had the lobster bisque and a very large wedge salad, which she enjoyed. A friend who joined us had good things to say about his filet mignon entrée. I haven't been disappointed on several visits to this restaurant.

Read very mixed reviews of The Sardine Factory, but were delighted with the outcome. We were only in Monterey for one day so we wanted to try a great restaurant. We booked a table and planned a relaxing walk around the Cannery before dinner, but as it was windy and cold this wasn't pleasant so we went to the restaurant early. Not a problem. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by very friendly staff and were given the choice of tables in each area. The staff advised us about the pros and cons of each area....we chose the Captain's Room as it was very elegant and quiet and had an open fire which was very welcoming on a cold evening. The Conservatory was a little noisy and we felt it would have been a pleasant spot for lunch rather than dinner. The staff are a little formal but very efficient and obliging. The food was sublime... I can highly recommend the Steinbeck as a starter and the Parmesan crusted Calamari, Scallop and Prawn. The seafood was fresh and succulent and cooked to perfection.
I was concerned about the comments of the dress standard for this restaurant and dressed up, but we did see guests arrive in very casual attire, and they were ushered into the conservatory, not given the choice of the Captain's room. Altogether a delightful evening with excellent food.

Our party of 6 was seated in the conservatory as requested. Unfortunately it was a cold and foggy night and we were seated next to the outside entry door which was being used quite a bit and often left open for us to close. It was quite chilly do to the door constantly being opened.

We split three appetizers, all of us had wine and a soup or salad with our entrees. Bill without tip was $480. Service was excellent, food was terrific except for those who ordered the prime rib which so heavily salted one needed to cut about 1/2 inch off the outside edges to enjoy the otherwise fine meal. Considering we had a similar quality meal for almost half that the night before at another fine restaurant, this was expensive for what we received.
