We stayed here for 2 nights in July as a relaxing break on our California road trip. Very nice room on the courtyard, very clean, nice beds and bathroom, fridge with plenty of room for cooling our sodas and fruit. Coffee maker and very large screen TV in the room.

The hotel is literally steps away from Fisherman's Wharf and the sea lions. The only sounds at night are the seagulls and other birds. The pool is small but when we were here, it was not crowded. Beach is close by as well. Our teenage children loved the place!

The breakfast buffet at the hotel is very very nice! We found it well worth the $17 per adult. Great coffee, plenty choice of teas, nice juices, hot chocolate, lots of fruit and other healthy choises. The omelets are made to order and really delicious. Same for pancakes, waffles, and french toast; all included and made to order. Really good service, particularly Frida was very professional and really nice - she recommended things to see in Monterey as well as on our journey further south.
We would certainly recommend this hotel, especially for families in need of a break away from the hustle and bustle.

I had been debating many different hotels in the area and ended up finding a Costco deal for this hotel and said why not. Upon arrival the bellman greeted us as I would expect and the front desk was as pleasant as I would like from every hotel. The rooms were average size, but well stocked with amenities. I just love when hotels have empty mini fridges in the rooms ready for you. Even my girlfriend and her 16 year old daughter were excited when they saw the room for the first time!
Day after day everyone was just the same as when we arrived. The only minor complaint I had was that the concierge was rarely available and often a little less knowledgeable than I would have hoped for. All in all that is just some constructive criticism and as we were walking out of the hotel we all said we would happily come back and stay here again.

Room Tip: Please note that 2 beds are DOUBLE beds! Me and my girlfriend are use to a King size. Very big dif...

We just recently stayed at the Portola for the 4th time in 3 years. This is my favorite place to stay -gorgeous views, well-appointed rooms, wonderful restaurants and fantastic service. I have no complaints when staying at the Portola. It is also a great location as cities such as Carmel, Pebble Beach, and Big Sur are easily accessible.

Room Tip: Ask to be on the 5th floor - facing the inside of the hotel. Try to avoid facing the street.

Within a 5min walk to the Fisherman's Wharf this hotel offers good location, but that's about it. First impression: big & impersonal, typical convention hotel. Overpriced at that. Everything was an extra charge. At this room rate all should be included like: breakfast, parking, Wi-Fi, etc.
No A/C in the room was a surprise, and not a good one. Our room came with a balcony and a distant view of the bay over the low roof tops.
Overall, NOT a good value for the money.

Stayed here for a conference, and everything was first rate. The room was great, the meeting spaces well run, and I got time to visit Monterey State Historic Park next door. I wish I had time to take in some of the "spa" amenities, but heard from others that they were great.

We stayed on the second floor with a king bed, refrigerator, attractive furniture.Everything was perfect. I would have appreciated free wi-fi in the room, but I was able to use my laptop downstairs.
WE did have to pay for parking, so include that when planning your trip. The staff was helpful and friendly.

Booked a suite for two nights at $350 a night to celebrate an anniversary. Large suite; ok, but nothing to wow you. Nice that they had some fruit waiting as an anniversary gift.

Left at 8:30am Sat., returned at 12:30pm for 20 minutes, and the returned for a nap at 3:30pm. Hello, room not touched! Took three calls to get someone up 30min later to service the room.

Gave them a chance to make it right, they offered nothing. Fine for their convention bookings and such, but look elsewhere if you are expecting something special.

Room Tip: Save your money, suites are not worth it.
