“What a dump!!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2008

My daughter and I stayed at this Motel and was so disappointed it almost spoiled the whole trip. After a wonderful day we dreaded having to go back to our room. If it hadn't been prepaid by Expedia.com, we certainly would have left and gone elsewhere.
The room was really filthy the day we arrived. The walls were covered with smashed spiders, which we found crawling everywhere.
Upon arriving we wanted to phone home because our cell phone would not work in that area,so we had to use the room phone . It turned out, it was broken, along with the alarm clock, and coffee pot.
The room doesn't have a bathtub so one needs to use an old filthy shower stall. Upon inspection it was filled with hairs, and the water stunk like sewer water.
There were holes in the bottom of the walls which I had to block up with toilet paper for fear that spiders or earwigs would come crawling out of.
As for sleeping, if you were brave enough to shut the light out,the pillows and sheets were very loud and crinkly and it was extremely noisy all night long.
We paid over $100.00 a night for this dump! The only good thing I can say was that the young lady at the desk was very nice and the breakfast was ok if you didn't mind cooking everything yourself.

I read some bad reviews but decided to give it a try anyway. We found the place cost efficiant, the staff friendly, and the room clean. There was no bad odor in the room, in fact it smelled nice. Everything was clean, and the lady at the front desk was very helpful. She reccommended a place to eat and handed us a coupon, we enjoyed the free appitizer at the resturant and the reccomendation was great. The breakfast included with the room was a money saver. They had hard boiled eggs, cereal, danishes, muffins, and even a make your own waffle station. It was of course very basic in taste, but it is free and doesn't taste bad. (but do skip the o.j. it was very watered down) The only problem was the shower/ bath. There is a jet tub but the jets didn't work and the shower pressure was off. I would stay again.

  • Liked — clean rooms and friendly staff
  • Disliked — non-operating jet tub

Very pleasant experience. Convenient location right across from a major shopping center and only a few minutes from the freeway offramp. Very inviting public area with all the flower plantings. Gives that "country cottage" appearance.

  • Liked — Convenient Location
  • Disliked — Access from only one direction of street. Need to make a u-turn a block down.

Thank you for appreciating our landscaping. Our gardner takes great pride in the over 50 different varieties of flowering plants and shrubs that he cultivates in our planters.

This was a cozy place surrounded by beautiful flowerboxes. The room was no-frills---a king-sized bed in a room just big enough to walk around the bed with space for a chair and small bedside table. The small bathroom had a walk-in shower. Would not recommend for obese visitors. The non-smoking room did not smell of smoke. We had a very comfortable, quiet night. Continental breakfast had the usual fare, but in addition had waffle making and hard-boiled eggs for protein. A good value for a place to rest our heads.

  • Liked — Value for a quiet place to rest out heads
  • Disliked — Tight quarters

My brother and I stayed here while we were in Monterey for a memorial service. We had a clean "suite" (the small room had a door and the big room was the one you entered from the front door) with a shared bath. It was clean and comfortable, and pretty quiet, especially because the back of the building looked out on a wooded canyon area. The breakfast was ok (hard-boiled eggs, make-your-own muffins, English muffins, juice, coffee, etc), served in a room at the adjoining motel (down a little path), which also had the office. (If you like Starbucks coffee, though, this isn't it!!) I assume both motels were separate originally, but now both are Comfort Inns, next door to each other. The Munras one was where we stayed, and, though it wasn't anything particularly special, it was well worth the money we spent, a total of about $200 for two nights.

The other nice thing is that it is walking distance to just about everything. It is about a block from the big shopping center with Macy's, etc, and a nice 15 min walk to the wharf (we went to the old wharf and ate at Lou Lou's for one breakfast, which I also highly recommend). You can also walk to the nice walking trail that goes around the Bay, or to the old Monterey center and those shops, etc. The hotels closer to those areas are generally quite expensive. I also recommend the French bakery in Old Monterey for a meal or just some pastries....yum!

  • Liked — Convenient location
  • Disliked — Nothing very special about it.

.My family and I were coming on our way back from Southern California we pick a nice hotel that we saw here on trip advisor (Don't want to mention there name) or so we assumed that it would be nice but NOT even 20min. into the room when my wife said that she was not happy dirty room smelly you know the works it was 2am in the morning when we left we checked out and drove down the strip full of hotels when we saw a Comfort Inn we had stayed in Comfort Inn's before so we tried this one. We checked into a room on the first floor a nice room with 2 queen beds and a separate double bed in a second room this room was so much cleaner than the one before and smelled great too. In the morning they had a great breakfast Belgium waffles, boiled eggs, nice muffins, and great tasting coffee. At check out we were talking to the front desk managers and they mentioned that they sold tickets to the Monterey Bay Aquarium a great place to take the kids. They also provided us with a map of Monterey and reservations to a great restaurant. This made us stay for 3 more nights so we got a great rate. the hospitality that this hotel showed us was so great that even my wife was so please with the hotel. Great customer service, hospitality, and a great place to stay. REMEMBER even thought a place looks big and popular its the little small hotels like the Comfort Inn Carmel Hill that brings out the real meaning of hospitality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Liked — The great customer service
  • Disliked — everything was good

This was our first stay in Monterey. My husband and I were there to be certified in Open Water Diving for the first time.

We only needed a double/queen with one room. However, the king room suite was available and for not much more in price. This turned out to be perfect since we had all of our diving gear. Lots of room to store and hang equipment.

We chose Comfort Inn over the Travel Lodge, which offers a discount to divers, because we wanted a quiet place, which wasn't true at TL according to reviewers. This was confirmed by another student in our group who stayed at TL, woken by a live band and party Saturday night.

The Comfort Inn staff gave us a great recommendation for a restaurant, they were able to answer all our questions (patiently), and, when our last class ran over, allowed us check out late after warm showers, at no extra cost, even after we called twice to push back the checkout time.

All this and our room was clean, quiet, and comfortable!

  • Liked — value and quiet
  • Disliked — nothing
