“Very nice boutique hotel”
Reviewed 11 September 2009

The room was very stylish as was the hotel lobby. The downsides are these: 2 of the 4 days spent here were a little noisy. The hotel staff did not warn us that there was going to be work done to their surveillance cameras and/or outdoor speakers, which were located outside of our room, it was a bit noisy at times due to hammering, etc. etc; there is only once way to enter and exit this hotel - not really anyone's fault, Monterey is limited on space; the bathroom needed a little bit of work, it's showing its age; lastly, I had to ask the front desk for our complimentary bottles of water twice. It was almost like they assumed I was asking for more free water.

These were minor glitches to an overall great stay.

We stayed here for 2 nights and we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is clean and nicely decorated. I also love the pool/lounge area. The complimentary breakfast is great with a nice selection and I like the fact that they serve it until 10am so there is plenty of time for you to sleep in and still get your free breakfast. The internet connection is also free and there is no hidden fees or anything like that. They simply ask if you want internet and just give you the access code. We checked in late at night and the hotel staff at the time was exceptional. I think her name was Michelle. She really went beyond friendly and helpful. She gave us everything we asked for such as tour guides/info and restaurant recommendation. We wanted a good steakhouse and she recommended The Whaling Station in Cannery Row. She was right on..they really did have delicious steaks. I got the NY bone in and it literally melts in my mouth with every bite. My boyfriend got the t-bone which was also delicious. Our Monterey trip was wonderful...wish we could have stayed longer.

When traveling to Monterey, I always stay at this hotel. Rooms around $100. It's always clean and comfortable. Each room has a microwave and fridge. There are two robes in each room and wonderful shampoo, condition, and lotion! It's a well kept secret :)

Amazing hotel in Monterey.
We arrived late, and we were very tired. Express check in, big and comfortable room. Quiet in the morning.
We had a quick breakfast (good enough for us)
If we come back, we will select this hotel in Monterey
The hotel is not far from the Aquarium (you need the car)

I stayed at the Mariposa Inn in late Aug, 2009 -- the room was lovely, with a little sitting area with flat-screen TV, small refrigerator, and microwave, and a bedroom with another flat-screen TV above a fireplace. My room faced the pool, but I had no noise problems, either from outside or from guests in the adjoining rooms.

The hotel is convenient to downtown, and literally right by the entrance to Hwy 1 that goes to Carmel -- less than ten minutes away. A great location.

I would definitely stay at the Mariposa again.

My brother and his wife, and my husband and I stayed at the Mariposa Inn for three nights recently. We had reserved two king standard rooms and when we arrived we were told we were upgraded to suites, which was nice surprise. The rooms were very nice looking, a good size with fireplace and hot tubs in room. It also had a double sized shower. Very lovely.
Now for the drawbacks - there is a lot of noise from the road. We compensated by turning on the air conditioner to drown out the road noise and kept the drapes closed - though we would have preferred to leave the windows open. After not getting enough sleep the first night though we were glad to leave the air on.

Also, though the tub and shower were beautiful to look at the plumbing installation was kind of weird. In our case the shower had a pull out control for the water flow that was very difficult to pull out - and the hot - cold was reversed. So you had to turn it to the right for hot and left for cold. It also took quite a while to warm up. As well after we used the tub, the drain would not stay open so that the water could drain out - we finally stuck a nail clipper to wedge it up and it finally drained.
In the case of my brother's room - they didn't have a problem with the tub - but they did not have adequate hot water. They got it to a warm stage and then barely had time to get the shampoo out of their hair. Good thing it was summer! The front desk suggested that a lot of guests were taking a shower at the same time and that caused the inadequate amount of hot water. Not a great thing for a hotel.
We enjoyed Monterey and though the rooms were adequate - we would stay some place else next time.

I was very very surprised , this hotel went beyond my expectations. For the very affordable price we paid, we were surprised even more to be upgraded to a room with a fireplace. The hotel was renovated in 2008 and it feels and smells new. The decor and furnishings are modern contemporary, very comfortable with quality tea and coffee facilities. There is a decent sized pool and jacuzzi. They offer a continental breakfast in the room rate which was more than we expected, not just cereal and toast. Its close to cannery road and only a few minutes drive to Carmel - its a great alternative rather than staying at the expensive hotels in Carmel. I would definately stay there again.
