“Good stay in Monterey”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

We stayed here for one night during our vacation.

The room itself is huge. We even had a small garden we could go out to.
Sadly the garden was not well maintained and had cigarette remaining on the ground.
Regardless, we really liked the room, and the service was exceptionally good.

Breakfast is a bit minimal compared to all the hotel we stayed in during our vacation,
but it's not a big issue for us.

The outside environments has a Mexican or Spanish design with Patios and waterfalls
which is very nice.

We really liked the placed and would love to come back to it one day.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street may be noisy, so try to avoid them.

Stayed here for 2 nights driving up the coast. Rooms were really nice with big bed, couch with big TV, fireplace, kitchen and balcony. Great location with just a 5 min walk to centre. Easy access to parking but high charge for it. The breakfast would be nice but both mornings it was too busy to get in. Had to settle for coffee and doughnut to take back to room.

Room Tip: Make sure it's the ones with fire place and the balcony as they are worth it.

Pros - Great Location, Clean Room, All Suites, Parking Garage (yeah you had to pay for it, but it was great to have)

Cons - Unfriendly staff, horrible continental breakfast, no air conditioner and no working windows, very loud trash pickup.

I was really excited to stay at this hotel in Monterey and was pretty happy with the reviews I had read on tripadvisor. That being said, this place was underwhelming, and I was excited to leave after our 2 night stay.

The room was very clean and large, but with no windows or air conditioning, we had to open the door to our deck as well as hold the door to our room open with a chair just to get some airflow. The hotel also gave us a tiny fan, like something you'd place on your desk at work. I was surprised they didn't at least offer a ceiling fan or something...we ended up having to keep the door to the deck open all night (no screen or anything).

The other issue with the room was that trash pickup was right outside our deck. And it's the kind that uses a machine to hoist the trash cans and dump them into the top of the truck. It was so loud at 5am on both Thursday morning and Friday morning I woke up in a full-on panic. It might as well have been IN the room with us. If you decide to stay here, ask for a room facing Pacific Street, or at least a room away from Jackson Street (which is where the trash pickup takes place).

The continental breakfast was very underwhelming. The "fresh" foods provided were watermelon and hard boiled eggs. The rest were some packaged muffins and stale bread and stale bagels. They also had cereal. There's tons of cafes in Monterey, I'd recommend skipping the continental at the hotel and getting some oatmeal or eggs somewhere else.

The staff here was hit or miss. Sometimes they were kind of nice, other times they looked miserable.

I will say the room that we had was great. We stayed in a Junior Suite which I think is the lowest level of rooms they offer, and it was very spacious. The bed was comfortable, the TV was large, and the kitchenette was perfect. Other reviewers seemed to take issue with the parking, but we didn't mind paying $40 to park the car in the garage, we preferred it over street parking.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from Jackson Street (this is where trash pickup takes place at 5am)

Stayed for two nights and as previously stated, the staff were helpful and rooms clean and spacious. Agree that it could do with some updating, however the continental breakfast included in the rate was more than adequate. Situated on the Monterey Historic Walk, and central for all Monterey, except Cannery Row/Aquarium which is a short car drive away.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the road may be quieter and not have a high wall around the patio.

Stayed at this hotel for 7 nights whilst attending a conference near by. Arrived around 11pm after a 20 hour journey and was grated by name by a very friendly member of staff. Have a very large room to the rear of the hotel containing a large bed, sofa, 2 chairs, microwave, fridge (came in very handy), dining table + 2 chairs, open fire and a balcony with two chairs.

The bathroom was large ad spacious with both a shower and bath tub. Whilst the room has no air conditioning it stayed at a very comfortable temperature. On the first morning I was disturbed by noise from outside my room due to staff moving trolleys around though this was after 10am so you can't really complain.

Only took breakfast in the hotel one morning and did find the selection and available seating limited.

The location is very convenient for the conference centre (literally across the street), fisherman's wharf (5mins walk) and many near by bars and restaurants. It is a pleasant 30 minute walk to Cannery Row and a little further to the Aquarium which is well worth a visit, there is also a trolley bus which stops outside the hotel which will take you to Cannery Row and the Aquarium.

On the next junction is a friendly deli very useful for stocking up on water, beer etc.

All the staff I spoke with where very friendly, approachable and knowledgeable.

The hotel is a short taxi ride to Monterey Regional Airport costing approximately $20

I would stay at this hotel again if I'm ever in Monterey.

Room Tip: Room towards the rear away from Pacific Street if you want a quieter stay, though towards the front...

This is a nice hotel. We were looking for a very last minute hotel in the Montery Bay or Carmel by the Sea area. Most things were booked or outrageously priced. We happened to find this one online and it was perfect for the price and included a light breakfast. There is a parking garage fee however. The hotel had a boutique feel and the staff was fantastic! Our family of 4 stayed in a junior suite. It was big and comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to others!

Stayed for two nights, the staff were very welcoming, the rooms spacious and clean but the overall feel is that the hotel needs a good overhaul. The rooms private patio was looking at two walls. Communal areas could be cleaner.
