I booked this hotel as a Priceline value. However, what I got in return was a 1 bdrm suite type room. Beds were most comfy. Indoor pool was a smash with guests. The breakfast room was nice but a bit crowded. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would do it again.

Looking at some of the other reviews it is hard to imagine we are talking about the same place. We checked and and checked out within 5 minutes of walking into our rooms. We had 3 rooms and they were consistantly bad. The smell in all 3 rooms was overpowering, it was like they were trying to mask some bad damp/mould problem. Three hours later we could still smell what ever it was on our clothes, and we only spent 5 minutes in the room.
A look at the pool through the glass was all we needed to convince us this was not suitable. There was a visable scum around the edge.
Not Good.....

Great place to stay if you are a family of 5. Our kids (under 7) share a bed and we get our own bed. There is a wall and door that separate the 2 beds (You need to request). The highlight is the indoor heated pool. Beds are ok, but pillows are smaller than regualr size. Pool towels are skimpy. Breakfast is all carbs. No variety day to day. Bathroom is on the smaller size. The tiles are mix matched in design. Clean and friendly.

Room Tip: Upstairs (no elevators)

I was a bit leery of booking this room since the price was so low I figured there must be a reason. There wasn't! The room was incredibly clean, even the hidden areas (I look). The bed was comfy, the sheets were decent, 4 pillows on one queen, 2 of which were down. A fridge, microwave, coffee maker, real cups and glasses, and nice fluffy towels were in the standard room. Parking and access were a breeze. 5 min max drive to Cannery Row. Free breakfast in the morning including waffles. The indoor pool was clean and perfectly heated. The spa was clean and the jets were amazing to ease a tired back! My only tiny complaint was the room was pretty small. Granted, I booked a room with one queen, so maybe the king room is bigger. Overall, it's a very nice place and I would definitley stay here again.

We opted for the Clarion on Munras Avenue since this property was conveniently central to all area attractions and did not charge additional resort fees or for parking. As with many hotels in Monterey, it is an older wood-built property, so we were concerned about noise during our 3-night stay. We were lucky and only the first night had noisy neighbors. We were given one of the largest rooms with a sitting area, refrigerator, microwave and fireplace. The large two-sink bathroom counter space was a plus. Room decor was a curious mix of contemporary (new king bedroom set) and hand-me-down (a Murphy bed encased in plain plywood). The king bed was comfortable but needed to be flipped since it sagged on one side. The feather pillows were appreciated. Everything was clean, although the refrigerator and microwave exteriors were discolored/worn. The standard Clarion Hotels breakfast usually includes eggs and sausage/or bacon, but at this property breakfast selections were disappointing, limited to very basic continental items. Front desk reception was welcoming and helpful. Overall a good value hotel for Monterey, but would like better soundproofing and more breakfast selections.

From the minute we pulled in we regreted booking this hotel. We used priceline so we didn't pick it ourselves. We booked a double bed because we had three kids with us. They only had single bed room for us. Manager was rude and said take it or leave it and if we wanted a rollaway it would cost extra. I could smell alcohol and marijuana on her breath. She also had friends hanging out partying with her in the office. The pool was a sespool of germs and disgusting. The room was even worse. I don't think they did any clean up from previous guest other than make the bed which had sex st.ains on the comforter. The pillows smelt like sweat. The carpet smelled like urine. I have never had a experience like this that made me feel obligated to leave a bad review but I felt other travelers should be warned so their trip to beautiful Monterey won't be ruined by this hotel that should be condemned and torn down. Not to mention the unprofessional rude druggy staff.
