Booked the one suite on the premises & decided to switch to a regular room with a whirlpool. When we pulled down the sheets on the bed, we found blood on a pillow, not happy. The bathroom was fine and updated, with the bed just OK. The indoor pool was adequate with a nice hot tub. The breakfast was a little light with no eggs, meat, or yogurt, although had regular plates & flatware. The place was adequate but should have been better amenities with this brand name.

Room Tip: The suite is not worth it.

Upon checking in from a long drive from Las Vegas, room wasn't what is "advertised" on computer!!! So beware! Rooms are NOT what u see! The first night girl accommodated us for a different room w/a kitchen... But this one was in horrible condition for what we pre-paid! I was so upset but so exhausted we decided to just deal w/ it in the morning. The morning staff was down right incompetent!!
Couldnt help us.. So I demanded the manager right then as their motto is "customers come first" but guess what?? He's NOT on site!!
WHAT? I had to demand his staff to literally page him! Unacceptable
Didn't see him or hear back that day or the next, despite my request. Finally after continually "voicing" how upset I was at this point did I finally speak to him. Word of caution-- he acted like it was our fault!!! It wasn't until I mentioned that I had actual pictures of the room did his tone change!! Unbelievable!! People--location is great-- but choose another hotel!!! Room condition didn't change, & the next day, light above the counter fell down from the ceiling!!! What the ???? Again, had to demand to page manager, as he is RARELY ever there! Horrible service, poor quality of room, way way over priced & super noisy!!!! Breakfast is a joke!!
Choose elsewhere for anyone reading this far!!! Seriously! It was so bad I even called their 800# & that was just as bad! They DO NOT care about you as a customer!!!! All they care about is ripping you off!!!! Never ever will I stay there!!!!!!

Staff was fine although not happy to see us. The room was small, dirty, cold and odorous!! The pillows aren't a standard size pillow. We slept on a full size bed although I advised them in advance that someone in the booking party was 6'6" tall. We were too tired to deal with the quality of the room and elected to open the windows and crank up the heat in an effort to alleviate the smell of mold and mildew. We left the windows open when we left as a favor to whomever ended up in the room after us.

The next morning the oatmeal was cold! The biscuit "gravy" was clearly some "just add water" concoction, thin and also cold. I ended up eating breakfast elsewhere. They didn't even have a microwave.

Room Tip: Don't pay more than $70 for this room,

The Clarion Hotel in Monterey was very nice. The second bed was in a separate room with a balcony & view of the bay. How nice to be able to look out at the ocean! Breakfast was adequate: the real china & flatware were a plus. Pool was warm & clean with towels available at the desk. The hotel was walking distance to shopping & close to major highways. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here as we needed to stay another night in Monterey and our hotel (Portola) had no vacancies.

No horror stories to report. It's a reasonable budget hotel. The room felt tired and the breakfast was meagre, but then this is a cheap hotel. I've certainly stayed in a lot better for the same price (we did so that week), but Monterey is an expensive/overpriced town.

I stayed at the Clarion for 2 nights. The first night we paid about $190 for 3 people in a double. We extended our stay for a second night (at $300) to explore more of Monterey. That was a bit overpriced for the quality of the hotel even on a Saturday night. The rooms are clean but just a bit noisy. You could hear the next door neighbors arrive and leave at all hours of the night but that may just have been the room we stayed in. The breakfast should be used as a snack to an early lunch. Staff was good and responsive all around. I would prefer to be 2 blocks or so closer to downtown. Probably would not stay at the Clarion again but it's not a bad last-resort place.

My stay at the Clarion Hotel Monterey was a good reminder of what hotels use to be. Although clean and comfortable the age of the hotel showed in a musty odor that was constant. I was impressed by how quite it was and was able to sleep quite well. The continental breakfast was stark but they had Cheerios (my favorite cereal) and the coffee was fresh.
