My wife loved this place, as it was our FIRST anniversary. The Victorian style was cute, and they had a complementary tea/coffee in the afternoon. The room was nicely decorated and the fireplace was the winner. It was very easy to light and gave a wonderful effect to the romantic feel of the room. Mary was a sweet older lady at the front desk. She was the best! Pretty decent price as well.

This hotel is in a good location, but the hotel corridors and rooms have seen better days. We got no special attention from the staff, and were surprised at the parking fee, which was not disclosed at the time of booking. The breakfast was average.

We stayed over Thanksgiving weekend, the hotel exceeded our expectations. Great location within walking distance to the Aquarium (and get your tickets at the hotel- 2 days for the price of one!). We especially enjoyed the wine & cheese reception each night! The front desk staff was exceptionally friendly and gave our dog treats and a toy. Hot tub was nice and hot and the breakfast was pretty good too. We used our fireplace and private balcony, very nice...we will definitely return.

Pro - This was our 4th stay at this hotel. Two of those stays we brought our Great Dane with us. The staff is very friendly and eager to be helpful. During the stays with our pet, she was treated with a bowl of treats and welcome card. This last stay, we were treated with a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates welcoming us back. It is the perfect location to explore Monterey and Pacific Grove. We walked or biked just about everywhere we went. The grounds are luscious with lots of green plants and walkways. We are always surprised at how quiet the entire grounds are, considering how full the parking lot has been. The continental breakfast has enough choices to keep you full beyond lunch. Trays that you can take back to your room. Although we are not wine drinkers, there is a wine/cheese hour which seems popular.

Con- The cable provider was recently changed and we were not happy with the channels, and lack of a menu or guide to search what you would like to watch. No video or DVD player or rentals available. There is not an area within the hotel grounds to take your dog potty. You must walk a ways off ground to find a location. Not convenient for late night or early morning potty breaks. There is a parking fee of $13 a day for undergroundnon-secured parking.

Room Tip: Rooms on the street can be a bit noisy during day and early evening hours, but have a nicer view than the internal rooms that look into the courtyard. Sometimes you can hear the seals barking, especially early in the morning, along with the sea gulls.
