“Bring Earplugs!”
Reviewed 17 June 2005

I must say, I booked this hotel for our stay in the Monterey area over Memorial Day because of the price and the "ok" reviews. I wish I had seen the last review about the noise! They had raised the prices for the Memorial Day weeked, but everyone had, so we expected to pay a little bit more. But we DIDN'T expect to have to listen the the crying baby and television program that our next door neighbors were listening to! Once they went to sleep, we had the pleasure of listening to the airplanes overhead! Luckily, we were only staying one night before we headed off to Santa Cruz. You get what you pay for, I guess. It was clean, the tv worked, etc. just bring earplugs if you actually want a good night's sleep!

The motel is situated under the main flight path of Monterey airport, so the early-morning flights conveniently replace your alarm clock. The paper-thin walls allow you to listen to the intresting conversations of your next-door neighbours' and the threadbare furnishings make sure that you appreciate your own home, however humble.

As an added attraction, we were given a good physical workout when the proprietors thoughtfully invited us to swap our non-functioning TV with that of the room next door!

A delightful experience topped off by the complimentary breakfast, served in the reception area, and comprising a selection of sawn-in-half danishes and muffins that tasted almost as good as fresh cardboard. Sadly the coffee wasn't up to the same standard.

Stay in the Econo Lodge! It's better than being drowned in effluent! (Just.)

Myself and my family stayed 1 night. We reserved a room here because
of the Econolodge add on the web-site. We were promised a spa, I even called before reserving the room to verify that we would have us of a spa on the date of our stay. It was not working. 1 person
at the front desk says we will fix it, but it was never fixed. And the manager at check-out time says we were not allowed to use it because during the previouse nights the customers stayed in the spa too late. The picture of the pool on the web-site is not the picture of the pool at Econolodge. We were very dissapointed!

I don't know what everyone keeps raving about. I picked this place because of all the good reviews. This place was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. It was dark, dingy and cheap. They didn't even have fitted sheets for the bed- they used flat sheets which didn't even reach the foot of the bed. The floor was lumpy and the place had an odor. It was a typical cheap hotel that we paid too much money for. The bed was not comfortable. I went to iron and noticed that there was an ironing board but, no iron. The continental breakfast was gross and the coffee was terrible. The front desk help was awful. I asked about dinner recommendations and the young guy at the front desk pointed to some coupons at their register- no help. My tip is to spend the extra money and stay at a nice bed and breakfast in Carmel and drive to the aquarium in Monterey. Don't stay in Monterey - it is nicer in Carmel. A must in the 17 mile drive- pay the $8.50 for the entrance fee- it is worth every penny. Please trust me on this one- I felt obligated to come back to tripadvisor to let everyone know that this place is awful. Don't waste your valuable vacation time on this one.

Great little place! Not the fanciest joint in town, but it's a nice place to relax and get some rest. Friendly staff and good housekeeping crew. Just happened to be in the room while the maid came in to clean and she did an awesome job. Man, it was like hospital clean! Good location, not far from any of the sites. Card-Key doorlocks. Small kitchen area w/mini fridge and microwave. Also, iron w/board. Stayed there 2 nights. If you want the"hotel experience" this isn't the place, but if you want a nice, clean room at a great price this is the one for you.
