Eleven of us met for lunch at Seafood Village in Monterey Park. As the name indicates, this Chinese restaurant is well known for its seafood.
We started with creamy shrimp with honey-candied walnuts. The shrimp was delicious with just a touch of sweetness. Next we had clams in black bean sauce, ginger, and green onions. It was artistically presented, but the clams seemed too chewy to me. We were served the house crab special, which was also a spectacular presentation. The platter contained three whole crabs covered with sautéed and crispy garlic and red chilies. One of our group members said, “The crab was one of the best crab dishes I have ever had”. It was hard work getting the meat out of the crab, but worth the effort.
We also had a tofu and Crispy deep fried bean curd with bamboo fungus. Members of the group thought both were superb.
The sautéed pea shoots were perfectly seasoned with herbs and garlic. My favorite dish was the Sautéed Snow Fish Filets with Garlic and Lemon. This is reputed to be the most popular dish at the restaurant, and justifiably so.
The menu includes chicken, beef, vegetable, pork, noodle and other dishes.
