We stayed here in September 2012 for one night after driving Big Sur. The welcome from Jeff Anderson was very friendly and welcoming and the room was lovely, we had a twin queen room and the shower was great. We ate in the adjoining Galley restaurant overlooking the water and it was the best meal we had on our two week trip. Jeff also gave a good recommendation for breakfast in Carla's Country Kitchen which also was excellent. The civilised check out time of 11am was a relaxing way to leave and start the new day. Our only regret was booking for only one night.

This 8 room property is run by a family that clearly takes a lot of pride in the rooms. You can tell when you walk in - ours was a very large room with a large bathroom. We had a room at the end of the place, which may have been bigger then most.

Everything was "tidy", and you can see that the place is well run with the room spotless. The bed was comfortable and everything you would want were there.

There are two things to be aware of - parking and noise. There are only about 6 or 7 parking spaces, so if you get in late you are out of luck. This is not, however, a big issue, since there is a parking lot right below your window. The noise issue, however, may be a problem. Most of the balcony's overlook a parking lot, and during the day people are walking and talking constantly. If you are lucky enough that there is a band at the restaurant next door enjoy the music until they are done (we are told by 11:30); you have no choice. Also as cars with loud radios or motorcycles with loud mufflers drive by be prepared to hear them as well.

We have stayed many places in Morro Bay and the areas around there. If you are not bothered by either of the two issues you won't be disappointed if you stay here.

Room Tip: If you can afford it get one overlooking the ocean.

We were looking for an overnight stay in a hotel/motel about half way between LA and SFO and the Anderson Inn was really excellent in this respect. We paid $229 (~£143) for a room with Queen bed and a Bay view. The room was large, clean and provided all the amenities that we needed, including an excellent coffee-making machine. The Inn is a new building built by the Anderson family on the site of a previous Inn that had become untenable. Jeff Anderson greets you himself and makes you feel most welcome. The Galley Restaurant is part of the building and is sub-let from the hotel; it appears to be the best place in town to eat and I will review it separately. The hotel and the Galley don't provide breakfast but there are several options within walking distance. Look forward to being woken by the distant noise of the seal colony in the middle of the estuary. We thought that this was great fun and would recommend it to anyone. As mentioned by another reviewer, don't be put off as you drive into town.

Room Tip: Its a long building with a short end over the water. I'm not sure that the choice of room is th...

Morro Bay is a bit of a tourist trap - complete with seafront of shops selling tat. However, despite ominous approach we had a great night here. The inn is clean and very comfortable - with everything we needed. We had a room with a great view and balcony out over the bay.

However, the food in Morro Bay made our stay. An exceptional dinner at the Galley, followed by the best breakfast I've ever had in the US at Frankie & Lola's... for a very reasonable price.

It is an inn not a luxury hotel - but its all the better for it.

I agree with all of the other excellent reviews. This place is just as a hotel should be. The Anderson family are the nicest people. The hotel is right on the sea. The rooms are beautifully decorated in pale colours. A lot of thought has been put into detail - blankets, binoculars, etc. We stayed in one of the corner rooms with a view over the rock which was breath taking. We slept to the noise of the sea lions outside and woke to mist over the bay. Don't miss a stay here. There isn't a pool I clicked the stars by mistake!

Anderson Inn is the perfect combination of gorgeous bayfront or over-water rooms, beautifully detailed room interiors, luxurious amenities, and hospitality. My husband and I have come back repeatedly, and I can't think of any place where inside comfort and the beauty of the outdoors blend so seamlessly. The boisterous harbor seals, marine birds, sea otters, sailboats, and ocean air provide a magical marine backdrop to this wonderfully comfortable inn. As other reviewers have already commented, the high thread count sheets, robes, fireplaces, comfy chairs, beautiful colors/lighting and lovely bathrooms make any stay here a real treat. But, there's more. In a world where so many places have become impersonal, the Anderson family has created a place to come home to, where first time guests and repeated guests alike all feel genuinely welcomed and very much at home. Jeff and Mollie are simply wonderful, and their gift of enthusiasm and caring has put a stamp of originality on this inn that can't be duplicated anywhere else. We are so sorry to leave, and are already dreaming of our next trip back.
BTW, the food at the Galley Seafood Restaurant downstairs is delish-don't miss......

This wonderful inn is a gem! The innkeepers are so helpful and genuinely nice. The room was perfect - great bed, exquisite linens, lighting perfect, shower terrific, vaulted ceilings, reading lamps on both sides of the bed, plenty of places to put things, refrigerator, robes, QUIET. Our room (208) was on the end, so only one shared wall. It has a nice view of Morro Rock and the small street. If you can, the rooms overlooking the water would be great to book, but all 8 are fine. Cute town, too!

Room Tip: Roooms over the water are great, but all 8 are lovely.
