Stayed 3 nights here, 3 women, 1 room but it was roomy and had a great view! We were close to the harbor, the restaurants and a view of the rock !! Maid service ok.. we had spilled some dried nuts on the carpet and they were still there when we left which indicated they never vacummed... hm... Had clean towels, extra pillows and blankets but the obvious was never picked up.
We would stay again, room comfortable, and there was a room for breakfast and places to sit and relax both inside and our own balcony!

This is not the ritz carlton. This is a very quiet and peaceful little place nestled 2 blocks from the beach. The elavator is a little creepy but the room was very warm and inviting. Very clean.
The comp breakfast is very basic but we were not expecting 5 star cuisine either. Awesome area. Take a walk down to the strip where the restaurants and shops are and you can see the otters and sea lions playing in the bay.
We stayed in 6 different places throughout the state in 7 days and serena was by far the best value of all. we were in an upgraded room with balcony and bay view for $70.00.
Wish we could have spent more time there.
If you want room service,a business center and valet parking go spend $200+ a night somewhere else

We stayed three nights in the La Serena Inn in Morro Bay. The hotel is definitely a charmer: very clean, great staff, very nice large rooms, nice breakfast, great location, and great price. What's not to like about this place? If I go to the area again, no question: I will certainly stay there again.

My room was clean, the hotel is in a perfect location, and I could not have been happier about the size of the room, refrigerator, microwave, and realtive quiet of the hotel. However, I had a continual problem with staff charging my bank card in error. The hotel is fine, just beware of giving your credit card numbers. The staff seriously needs to work on their communication between each other.

The hotels listed are really the ones I would recommend. I've stayed in the Embarcadero Inn, but that was in the early 90s when I attended a function at the popular Morro Bay Yacht Club across the street. I've also stayed at the Inn at Morro Bay, across from the golf course. It used to be called "The Golden Tee". This is a popular spot for weddings and has a great restaurant. Both hotels I mentioned are more upscale than the La Serena Inn, but La Serena is right downtown next door to MidState Bank and within walking distance of restaurants and shops, including the Bay Theater which plays first run movies for bargain prices—especially when compared to San Francisco or Los Angeles. I would also recommend the Blue Sail Inn, even though I've never stayed there. And you can't beat Dorn's Breaker's Cafe for a great breakfast! Don't bother eating at your hotel. I drive 20 miles to share Dorn's with visiting friends.

If you are pulling into town, stop in for a glass of wine, draft beer (Murphy's Irish Stout) or a cocktail at Legends at 899 Main and Harbor St. Ask the bartender or a local for what hotels they recommend. Why? Because there are some unscruppless motel owners that you should shy away from. The kind that turn on their "No Vacancy" sign during the afternoon, then turn it off after 6 pm to take advantage of the poor tourists who find all the good hotels booked.

And always be aware that central coast hotels raise their rates on popular weekends. Like the first weekend in May during their "Cruisin' Morro Bay Car Show", the first weekend in October during the annual Morro Bay Harbor Festival and any weekend that nearby Cal Poly (California Polytechnic State University) is hosting graduation ceremonies. Their sprawing ag/engineering campus is only 12 miles south of Morro Bay in San Luis Obispo.

We stopped in Morro Bay during our leisurely drive down the coast. After flipping through the AAA book, we decided to check out La Serena and we ended up staying there for 3 nights in the junior suite. The room was clean, quiet and roomy and had a microwave and refrigerator. With our 9 month baby in tow, we spent lots of time in the room (for naps and early bedtime), and we were very comfortable. When we did get out, the location is so convenient that we were able to walk just about everywhere - Morro Rock, the embarcadero, Main St.

The only downside is the paltry continental breakfast. Don't bet on getting full on warm juice, tiny (and stale) muffins and danishes, and bulk cheerios dispensed from a large canister.

If I could I would have rated this 3.5 stars, but since the room was comfortable and the location is so convenient, I rounded up to 4.
