“Great location and price with a wonderful view of Morro Rock.”
Reviewed 1 November 2011

We stayed here for 2 nights for a good rate which included breakfast. The day we arrived was thick fog and we wondered around morro Bay which is really quaint. We decided to find Morr Rock the next day as we were not sure if it was a drive or walk. Much to our surprise when we woke up the next morning and opended the curtains Morro Rock was actually facing our hotel!!! The fog was obviously thicker than we thought the day before.

The hotel was exactly what you expect from a BW. Very clean and tidy. The room was really spacious though with lovely furnishings and much better than we expected, also included tea and coffee facilities in the room. The staff were lovely and really helpful too. Considering where the hotel is the price was good too.

Morro Bay is lovely with plenty of restaurants - BUT be aware - most of them close at 8-9pm. We nearly got caught out on the first night as we sat drinking in a bar. The barman looked surprised when we asked for a recommendation for a place to eat at 8.30pm as he advised that we would be lucky to get anything still open. Anyway we did find a restaurant but most of them were already closed. Morro Bay is a little like a warmer Whitby for anyone who has been there!

Try driving down to Avila Beach for half a day - lovely little town that has been rebuilt recently,

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 2nd floor overlooking Morro Rock. We were in room 206 and this was ideal!

Nice clean rooms. It was a bit quiet in Morro Bay (end of season) but the very friendly hotel lady helped us discover the beautiful surroundings. After a long day, relaxing in the outside jacuzzi with a view of Morro Rock was super relaxing. We stayed 3 nights and visited Hearst Castle, San Luis Obispo, Montana De Oro coast line and of course the bay itself. Greetings from Holland

We booked 1-night in September at Best Western ‘Tradewinds’ in Morro Bay as an overnight stop between Yosemite and the drive up the Pacific Highway 1 (Big Sur). I had booked online a few months previously to take advantage of cheaper rates and on arrival we were allocated room 204 which was on the first floor, accessed from external steps (which can get a bit slippery in the damp fog).

The motel was very easy to find and although we had not paid for a sea view, we had an excellent view of Morro Rock from our bathroom! The room was a typical Best Western room, well equipped (iron and board, hair dryer, fridge etc.) with comfortable kingsize bed, a small table and chairs and free WiFi (good speed) in the room. The shower was very powerful with lots of hot water. ‘Tradewinds’ is only one block from the sea front, literally a few minutes walk to the harbour.

There was a small breakfast included which can be eaten over in the reception or taken back to your room if preferred. This included fresh fruit, juice, pastries, cereals, coffee and a fresh waffle maker. It was nothing to get too excited about about but was good for a start to the day and it is unusual to get a breakfast at all at a motel.

The room was very comfortable for our stay and we were impressed with Morro Bay itself. Although we had planned this as simply a stop over, there is easily enough to see and do here to extend to a 2-night break. There are wildlife and whale tours from the harbour and a range of good restaurants and cafes - we ate at ‘The Galley’ and had a very good meal (make sure you book a table at the weekends as it gets very busy).

All in all an enjoyable stop-over with sea lions and pelican sitings as a bonus!

Myself and my husband recently did a roadtrip from LA to San Francisco and decided that Morro Bay looked like a good stop. Hotel is exactly all you need for a night or 2 to check out the place. Lady at reception was very nice. Room was perfect for what we needed, bed was comfy shower was quite good and WIFI was the best! Lots of lovely restaurants around but little disappointed that if its a quiet night, they close eveerything early, including bars.
On checking out, a continental breakfast is available for self service at reception, cereal, toast fruit coffee, juices and make your own waffles, the perfect start to any day.

My boyfriend and I were on our way to San Francisco and decided to make Morro Bay our halfway point. We researched many hotels in the area and based on the wonderful reviews, the Tradewinds won out! We were not disappointed at all. We had a very quiet room downstairs in the corner. The room was newly renovated and the bed was big and super comfortable. The bathroom was very clean, nice water pressure. The TV had lots of channels to choose from including HBO. They also have WiFi. The area was quiet and safe. You could hear the Sea Lions barking in the distance in the foggy night air when you were outside. The hotel is a block from the beautiful Marina full of old fishing boats and restaurants and little shops along the water. It's the perfect place for a romantic stroll. We ate at "The American Fish Company" and it was really good. :) The woman at the front desk who checked us in the night before and was there the morning after serving up a wonderful complimentary continental breakfast was named Lala and she was lovely and as nice as could be. While you're hanging out in the Marina, keep your eye out for Pirate Steve. He's a local character that blows his shell horn and adds even more charm to the place. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I would stay here again. Thank you Tradewinds for a wonderful experience. :) We'll be back! (from Kelly in LA)

Room Tip: Corner room down stairs, Room 105. Easy in and out! :) If you want 'white noise', run the ai...

Stayed here with my family mid August. Very friendly and helpful at check-in. The room was on the second floor, big and clean. Small but nice bathroom. The two beds were big and very good. No view but we didn't care as we just made a one-night stop. Wi-fi worked well when sitting at the table near the door. The breakfast was very basic and served in the Front Office area. There were only 3 very small tables, so you'd better take your coffee and toast to the room.
The hotel is very well located, just a few minutes walk from the waterfront.
All in all a good experience.
