we drove with our car through everitt memorial Hwy from the city of mount shasta and drove up to the point where the road ends, actually just where you start seeing less trees and more raw mountain. is was September so it just had snow at the peak, but most of the mountain was clear of snow and comfortable to walk. we stopped before the last win in the road to check the interpretive trail that was very interesting. the last avalanche was in 1995, and you can still see the affect it had on the mountain and the area where nature is struggling with growing back. we didn't hike to the peak but had a nice trail through the panther meadow loop trail from the campground. it was an easy walk, for about an hour with great views of the meadow that grows in the avalanche way and also goes between some short trees forest. there were no rangers or information points so come prepared and don't trust to find a place to, but food and drinks on the mountain since it's totally rough nature, as it should be...

Who knew that Mount Shasta is the earth's root chakra? We saw no Lemurians but enjoyed a hard, cold, windy haul up the Hotlam-Route under the guidance of Mt Shasta Guides. A fine little peak, crampons, ice axes and rope required.

This town has a unique downtown with a couple of funky and friendly coffee shops and interesting book stores. Locals are very friendly to visitors. Spectacular views of the mountain from just about everywhere.
