“Consistently good...”
Reviewed 25 March 2014

Black Bear Diners are good, homestyle comfort food no matter where you find them. The one in Mt Shasta just happens to be the first (original) Black Bear Diner and it's right next door to the Cinema. You can't go wrong here.

We were here when it was "Jerry's" back in 1994...always good food...after a movie in town, it's a great place to stop in and have a bite

“Good Food - Huge Portions”
Reviewed 6 February 2014

I stop at Black Bear Diners at every opportunity. They provide the type of comfort food that I rarely have time to prepare for myself at home. The help was very friendly and the food both flavorful and huge. I tried the hash this time and it was excellent. This is the original restaurant in this very popular restaurant chain. Highly recommended!

“A Very Fine Breakfast at the ORIGINAL Black Bear Diner!”
Reviewed 23 January 2014

We've been fans of BB Diner for many years. This was the first time we've been to this one, and we were very excited to realize that it is the original. We stopped early in the morning for breakfast and were immediately greeted by the hostess and waitress. The food was excellent, as it always is at BB diner. We REALLY loved our waitress. She had just the right "attitude" for a diner waitress, joking with us and making us feel like locals. She kept our coffee mugs filled, and made us feel welcome. This was a great start to our holiday vacation.

“A bear of a meal at the big bear diner”
Reviewed 2 December 2013

Located in Lake Shasta just off I-5 this diner has a combination of locals and those passing through from Oregon and other parts of California. There is no lit outdoor sign at night, you will find this location across from the Rite-Aid pharmacy.

Firstly I loved the staff here who are young and treated two developmentally disabled local customers with patience and respect. Secondly remember you are in a small town and the servers are doing the best they can.

We had groaning plates of fish and chips and pot roast that will rival your Mom's. Yes the tea was cold, and a dirty spoon had to be returned for a new one. But you are in the microcosm of a community with all the nuances and quirks evident. Enjoy this experience and ask the server their recommendations.

And to the staff, that gave a Coca cola to a challenged lady, and two coffees to another challenged fellow-I salute you, and cannot wait to return to your diner where you treat all people with respect. Good for you!
