“Ultimate pampering experience!”
Reviewed 7 June 2009

Dunbar House is so wonderful. We come back here every year for our anniversary, and can't imagine spending our anniversary anywhere else. Rich, Arline and their staff are always gracious and welcoming. We have stayed in each room and find them all equally intimate and cozy. The attention to detail throughout the house is amazing, and the gardens are spectacular . We have now learned to bring our camera to breakfast with us because the breakfasts are presented so beautifully, and they are scrumptious. We will definitely go back again, and again, and again!

We picked this out of the select registry since it was relatively close to where we live. It was a birthday celebration for my wife and we honestly did not expect it to measure up to our favorite B & B in Monterey. However, on arrival we were awestruck by the beauty of the garden and all the flowers and spots to sit on the grounds. We were greeted by Arline, the owner of the Inn. She gave us a tour of the Facility and described all the amenities and then took us to our room. She took the time to explain all the special features of the room to us and then left us to get settled in. We had a chilled bottle of champagne and snacks waiting for us in the room which was replenished with another tray of snacks the next day along with a bottle of delicious wine. Cookies were in the room, sherry and Port wine in the parlor. Lots of videos and books and the local newspaper were provided. She graciously recommended a few restuarants and made the resevervations for us. Her recommendations were spot on for us. The meals we had at both of our dinners out were wonderful. She also recommended a couple of local wineries to go tasting and she was also right on with those recommnedations.

I cannot say enough about this special place. We have stayed at numerous B & Bs over the years with our favorite being one on Monterey bay overlooking the ocean. My wife and I both agreed that we would put the Dunbar House right at the top of our list. We already made reservations to go back again. You can't go wrong with this Inn. It is wonderful.

We had a most enjoyable stay. Lovely grounds, an easy walk to everything in Murphys, wonderful breakfasts, and countless little things that made it memorable: appetizer plate, cookies, wine, snacks, free internet, and even a car window cleaning station. Highly recommended. We stayed in the Cedar room, with its enclosed porch and private patio.

Fom the minute we stepped onto the grounds of the Dunbar House... we new we had found a little piece of Heaven. ..Peace ful and serene filled with all of lifes finest luxury amenities.

This place is great...it's refreshing when you get superior customer service and the quality is there. The food was the best ever, delightful and interesting to the palette....five star!

The inn keeper's have not missed a beat...they have given attention to every detail...it is immediatley obvious in their staff as they are very proffesional.

This B&B is a beautiful old farmhouse, well-maintained, full of antiques and interesting features on gorgeous grounds. It's right in town with convenient parking. The breakfasts are unique and delicious. Hors d'oeuvres and a bottle of local wine are provided with each room. The hosts are friendly and very knowledgeable of the town, restaurants, local skiing and wineries.

Not worth the price!
03/20/08
The breakfast and housekeeping staff were excellent. They served a creative breakfast which was very tasty and different from your ordinary continental breakfast. In the past we have stayed at other bed and breakfast inns where the innkeepers couldn't do enough to make your stay comfortable. The innkeepers of the Dunbar House were hardly ever around and when they were there it was only to make a token appearance. In the evening when we returned from dinner the whole house smelled like smoke. All of the guests were concerned. We tried to call the innkeepers on the numbers that were left for an emergency to no avail. The fire department was called and fortunately it didn't turn out to be a big problem. The next morning the innkeeper appeared very blase about the whole episode. When I came home all of my clothes smelled like smoke.

  • Liked — The Breakfast and Breakfast staff
  • Disliked — That the innk eepers seemed interested in their own life and activities instead of being available for their guests
