“Relaxing Hideway”
Reviewed 28 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

A clean, cozy place. nicely decorated. If you are looking for a motel room this is not one. We enjoyed the sitting area in the garden. A nice touch. The couple that own it are very pleasant and accommodating. They also have a lot of info on the history of the area, very interesting.

“Lovely”

The cottage was very clean, the bed comfortable and it totally fit our needs for the weekend. They even had a nice terry cloth robe in the closet to borrow.

“Simple accommodations, rather confined, WIFI was horrible”

We stayed here as things in Murphy were booked. This location is in Douglas Flats which is outside of Murphys. Beyond Wifi, There is nothing wrong nor much exciting about the place.

I didn't like the A/C being in the bathroom it made that room cold and was harder to get circulation. No real breakfast space so we sat on the bed. The bed was okay.

Wifi was horrible, it existed but it crashed repeatedly. It has to be fixed for anybody who cares about having wifi to want to stay there. Owner knows it is poor as she recognizes it in her instructions. It crashed over 10 times - was patient the first 8 or so. No excuse in this day and age fix it or don't offer it. Don't say "sorry it is a bit temperamental".

We are happy that the majority of our guests enjoy our private garden cottage and sorry you were disappointed in your stay.

Yes, we are in Douglas Flat, 1 mile from Murphys. Our listing clearly identifies this as well our personal confirmation email with directions and local information. Our guests can enjoy the privacy the cottage provides while having easy and convenient access to town.

Yes, we have Wi-Fi issues, we're in the country, we don't have a T1 line. The cottage has it's own Wi-Fi, not shared, but we cannot control AT&T service nor others accessing their service which slows down or interrupts the access.

The cottage has a table and 2 chairs for indoor dining. The patio also has a table and seating for 4 people. It's a lovely private place for dining. Also, the deck has 2 chairs along with 2 side tables. Not sure why the bed was a preference for your breakfast.

But we know a private cottage isn't for everyone. A room in a hotel/motel with 24/7 uninterrupted internet access and central air conditioning would be a better fit for you, if you book early enough. Murphys is a great get-away location for the weekend, esp since we have so many concerts, great restaurants, lots of wine tasting rooms, outdoor zip lining, hiking, or simply enjoying the slower pace of the country.

“Very secluded get-away”

We had a very nice stay here. At first we were worried about the highway noise, but by mid-evening it had quieted down. You couldn't ask for more privacy and a lovely setting. The bed was comfortable and the linens and towels were very nice. It was very warm when we stayed and the ac wasn't very effective, but opening the doors and the floor fan did the trick. We would definitely stay here again

Thanks for taking the time to send a review on our cottage. We always want to know that our guests enjoyed their stay. I'm sorry to see that you had A/C problems since the unit will keep the cottage cool if the setting is maintained at "cool" and not switched to "outside air". We'll be sure and post a notice on the unit for future guests. Although opening up the French doors does create a lovely ambiance to view the patio pergola with the evening lights.

“Garden lover's dream”
Reviewed 18 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

This place has lots of charm. Best for couple who likes to be outside surrounded by flowers and beautiful plants. The one bedroom studio is small and rustic, but it fits the location and is all we needed. Nothing fancy. Cell reception is nonexistent and their WiFi is weak, but we came to unplug, so this was just what we needed to 'slow down.' Be sure to explore the gardens and multiple sitting areas throughout the property. Gorgeous roses, poppies, bachelor's buttons, fruit and berry bushes, hops, wooly lamb's ear, Jasmine, Calalillies, hops, Japanese maple and SO many more. Those are just the few I remember. Two pretty koi ponds, Chickens, huge grass area with great shade.
We were a bit hesitant when we first pulled up. Not exactly what we expected. It's on "Main Street" which is actually gravel in places and looks more like something out of the movie Wrong Turn at dusk. But it is much more attractive in daylight! We ended up driving to/from Murphy's quite a lot to meet with friends. Be prepared to have no reception.
We would stay here agin.

Thanks for your review and those great pictures of our Spring garden! Sorry about your problems with the cell service. We have AT&T service provider. The Wi-Fi is also AT&T and the recent upgrades we've done the service is generally good, although our country location can be a challenge from time to time. And our Main Street location is a definite throw back to yesteryear! This was the original street through the foothills before Highway 4 was created. Did you see the old stone building with the iron doors down the street? That was the original Wells Fargo bank where gold was stored. We love the quiet and privacy our guests can enjoy and unplug as you say and look forward to your next visit to our private cottage getaway!

“Can't do better than this lovely place.”
Reviewed 16 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

We stayed there for three nights while I went to a Kathleen Dunphy painting workshop in Murphys. The workshop is held literally a 3-minute walk up the street in the old schoolhouse. Then we went to Yosemite for three nights, and came back to the cottage for one more night before flying out. The cottage is on a really nice, quiet residential street with lots of interesting trees, birds, houses, etc. to see on my birdwatching walks. All kinds of things to interest a plein air painter! The cottage gardens are really wonderful. Angela and Don are wonderful gardeners and have so many interesting plants and flower beds, water features, etc. It was wonderful to meet and talk with both of them. The patio of the cottage is private and peaceful. Just a very short drive into Murphys. The cottage itself is spanking clean and well-thought out for the convenience and pleasure of guests. This is undoubtedly the best place to stay in Murphys. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

“Silver Anniversary”
Reviewed 13 November 2014 for a stay in November 2014

This was a great stay in a lovely garden setting. Although a bit small, we didn't spend that much time in the cottage so all we needed was a nice place to sleep and this was perfect. We had everything we needed - frig, microwave, coffee maker, plates - etc. an extremely clean cottage, close to Murphys and other Mother Lode attractions. The only suggestions is getting a larger TV or elevating existing TV so it is more eye level and somehow, if possible, improve wifi connection. Loved the garden which the owners were very kind to invite our exploring. Chickens were fun to check out. Thanks to the owners for helping to make our 25th Wedding Anniversary a memorable stay.
