We booked this Inn last year having gone by recommendations on Trip Advisor. it was our last stop on our round trip San Francisco/Seattle. The Inn itself is ideally situated being a 10 minute walk from the main street. It is set in lovely grounds and is well appointed. We chose room 10 from comments on TA and it was quiet, spacious and comfortable.
Upon arrival it was explained the Inn Keepers were newly appointed some 8 weeks ago by the new owners. The Inn had changed hands.
We enjoyed our stay and cannot fault Lee and Debra who were very pleasant but in some regards we did feel that our experience fell short of expectations.
1) Although hot water and tea/coffee is available downstairs non was available in the bedrooms meaning one had to make special trips downstairs to use the hot water flasks.
2) We had been advised on our original Terms and Conditions in November that a Reception would be held between 6 - 7 and Breakfast 8 - 10 in fact the reception was 5 - 6 meaning people were still returning from their days out and breakfast 8.30 - 9.30 a.m.(a limited window of opportunity for a luxury Inn?)
3) A minor point but shampoo/conditioner used the first day were not replaced
4) Only 2 wine glasses in bedroom - no provision for drinking water etc.
5) Bottled water was placed in the room the first day but not the 2nd day
6) Hot Tub out of order
Now it may seem nit picking but with the charge for the Inn being the highest of all our stays and comparing our other stays in particular having stayed at 2 other Inns (so we were able to make comparisons) there was a feeling it fell short of expectations and indeed what had been outlined both in the descriptions of the Inn on its own publicity and the reports on trip advisor last year when we booked.

That said we did go on an excellent wine tour with Platypus Tours and dined at Angele and Celadon which were both exceptional and enjoyed discovering Nappa.

Thank your for your detailed review. We greatly appreciate the input. Our policy is to replace items in rooms every day and we apologize if that was overlooked for you during your stay. We've recently expanded our onsite team to ensure a solution. We also checked the spa tub and it is functioning properly. We so wish we would have known about your difficulty with it during your stay so we could have addressed the issue for you. We do have our wine and cheese from 6-7 and if folks are around we don't cut off the party. We are sorry you missed it! Thank you again for your review and thoughts.

I poured over many reviews of B&B's in Napa before choosing White House. My initial experience booking the room was mixed - I had some difficulty over email with the past innkeeper but was able to book no problem over the phone for the nights we wanted. I was told I'd be contacted the week of our arrival to provide assistance with wineries, restaurants, etc., but that didn't happen. Not the end of the world, as I had already done my research and knew I needed to book dinner reservations for places far in advance, especially for Memorial Day weekend. After booking our room reservation, I emailed the innkeeper again to ask about recommendations of "off the beaten path" wineries but was just given the name of a tour company she recommended instead, we are not tour-type people so this didn't really help me.

Upon arrival we met Lee, a fairly soft spoken man at first, and he checked us in and showed us to our room (#12). He asked us if we had dinner plans and I mentioned Celadon, he said he wasn't familiar and had never been, which really surprised me since it's a well known established restaurant right in downtown Napa. I just recently learned that he and Debra are new innkeepers, so perhaps this is why?

We made it down for the wine and cheese happy hour and had a chance to sit out on the patio and view the nice pool. It was a little cool for us to take a dip, but another guest did so.

The location of the B&B is pretty good, we were walking distance to downtown and easily walked a few blocks to dinner our first night. Once it gets dark the street isn't very well lit however, and the neighborhood is pretty mixed with older mansions and smaller residential homes, but we didn't feel it was necessarily unsafe.

The room was fairly modern and nicely decorated, but pretty basic. We appreciated that there were no frilly flowers or Victorian decor which are often found in B&B's - they are not our taste, so that was nice. It had an electric fireplace, king size bed, flat screen TV, and the jetted tub in the bathroom.

We did use the jetted tub - it was very roomy, but quite high from the ground and tough to get in and out. It would've been nice to have a step stool there, even for my husband who is 5'10". The jets worked but were really loud, so we didn't use them.

Breakfast in the morning consisted of fresh fruit, coffee cake, egg/potato casserole, bagels and cheese, a variety of fruit juices, coffee and tea, Greek yogurt and granola. Good, but not the gourmet breakfast I usually expect from staying at a B&B. Probably a step up from your typical hotels that include breakfast with your stay. I will say that Debra was happy to accommodate our request to pack breakfast to go for us the day we were leaving, as we had to get on the road very early heading back to San Fran for our flight home, so that was nice.

Would I stay here again? Maybe, Lee and Debra were friendly and pretty accommodating. But if we travel back to Napa, I'd rather try another place. It was nice, but it wasn't spectacular, and for the price, I do expect more.

Room Tip: Room #12 is nice but a little hard to get in and out of tub, could use a step stool.

Thank you for your detailed, thoughtful review. We are pleased that Lee and Deborah were able to accommodate your requests and that you enjoyed the wine and cheese hour and sitting by our pool -- a rare pleasure in downtown Napa. We also appreciate your thoughts regarding improving concierge services and we are happy to tell you that a new assistant manager has joined us who is very versed on all to do "off the beaten path" in Napa. All the best to you!

If you're looking for a clean, decent inn with no frills at a reasonable price, this is a good inn for a weekend getaway.
The inn will not 'wow' you though. The rooms though advertised as contemporary are pretty jaded and there's nothing modern about them. It has fairly old carpets, a bit of a musty smell in the corridors and dated bathrooms. We had an upstairs King Deluxe room on the top floor with a jacuzzi tub bath - however the room had little light and the tub jets did not work. The bath fittings were old and barely worked.
We've stayed at multiple inns in the Napa Valley and most of the good ones had something special about them - great bathrooms, gourmet breakfasts, unique concierge services or other special touches. Most of those inns are owned by the innkeepers.
The innkeepers here manage the inn and the property management company is out of the East Coast. This one feels like a smaller version of a chain that you'd stay at in small towns on business trips - minimal bath amenities, standard breakfasts, no recommendations/suggestions for area visits, and fairly basic rooms. The innkeepers are definitely very courteous and friendly and are doing their best. It's a good pick if you need a place to stay for a last-minute getaway at not a shocker of a price.
On the other hand, if you are looking for a true wine country experience for special occasions, we'd suggest looking elsewhere.

Thank you for your review and thoughts. Just to clarify, the owners of our downtown Napa inn are Napa locals and although the innkeepers are new, they are receiving many rave reviews from our guests. We are sorry to hear that our outdoor pool (one of the few in downtown Napa), lovely grounds and full set of Lather bath products were not enough to wow you. We are planning a renovation soon, so we hope you give us another try. All the best!

My husband and I just got back from a wonderful Napa vacation at the end of April. I have to say that staying at the White House Inn & Spa was our favorite part of the trip. Not only was our room fabulous with a HUGE romantic Jacuzzi tub, but the service from Deborah and Lee was wonderful! They gave us great suggestions on wineries and restaurants in town, and served a beautiful breakfast that was out of this world!. The grounds are also very well kept, and did I mention a gorgeous pool and hot tub?! Very relaxing to say the least. Next time we stay, I will make sure to take advantage of the on property spa for a couples massage :)
Debby & Lee- Thank you for everything, and we will make sure to spread the word! Can't wait to come back!

Room Tip: If you are traveling with girlfriends, or another couple- try to get the room with the shared balcon...

What an honor that our downtown Napa hotel was the best part of your trip to wine country! We are so pleased that your stay was so delightful and that our onsite team hooked you up with the best of Napa (not to mention an "out of this world" breakfast!). We appreciate you spreading the word about our features and services and we'll be sure to schedule a relaxing spa day (if you like) during your next trip. We look forward to seeing you again in Napa soon.

I just stayed at the White House Inn & Spa and found out that Kim the innkeeper is no longer there. The new people Deborah & Lee are nice but they aren't as attentive as Kim was and more importantly they don't have Kim's famous lemon cookies or lemon cake. The new people don't call in advance to ask for arrival time or ask to arrange dinner or other things for you. Kim always did this. Breakfast is alright. It was much better when Kim was there. Hopefully over time Deborah & Lee get to know the area and can provide more insight on things to do in the area.

The good news is that with the new ownership they will be renovating the hotel. which is much needed. the carpet is worn throughout. Note if you stay in room 12 it is difficult to get in and out of the tub. I would recommend the hotel put a step stool. Hopefully next year when the renovations are done we can come back to a nice new product.

Room Tip: Note if you stay in room 12 it is difficult to get in and out of the tub. I would recommend the hot...

Thank you for your comments and thoughts. We appreciate your visit during this time of transition and we're happy to report that the new onsite managers are learning about the area on a fast track! While the lemon cookies were nice, we're getting great feedback on our burnt sugar shortbread cookies, so we think we'll continue that yummy new tradition. As we build our staff, we will start an advance concierge email program and be happy to set guests up with advance dinner reservations, wine tours and more. And, yes, the hotel will be undergoing some exciting design updates and changes and we look forward to unveiling a new look and features early next year. We hope you'll return to experience it all!

The Inn and grounds are beautiful. Very tall ceilings, stained glass, very charming. The carpet is a little worn, but otherwise everything is in good repair. The breakfast was great. The Innkeepers were very friendly and accommodating, however they are new to this Inn. They had only been there for 8 days. They did a superb job of running the Inn, but are still learning about the Napa area and so could not provide a lot in the way of recommendations. Restaurants are a pleasant 5 minute walk away. I would definitely recommend this Inn. Very charming!
