“Verasa, Vice-Versa, Unversed, Sporadic, Yet Nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2009

The Westin Verasa is a beautiful hotel with a very polite, nice staff, but needs improvement because the service is sporadic (yet polite).

The Good: Nice, clean, rooms; beautiful lobby; nice bar/restaurant area; good location for the up and coming Napa area.

The Bad: Service is sporadic; lots of confusion; differing prices; mis-quotes on prices; very bad chauffeur service; employees not knowledgeable.

The Ugly: Price mix ups that took two weeks to resolve.

Here's what happened: we checked in, granted, on a busy weekend, but they had our room and booking confused - with people in line behind us becoming increasingly irritated, they asked if we could 'wait' until they checked in the other parties. I told them definitely not - finally, they resolved the mix-up but had the wrong price for the room (I had booked a special on the website for one night for full price, one night half price and they not only had the wrong quote for the first night - twice the booking rate, but the full price the second night). They did resolve this, however.

We then went to the room which was beautiful. We went to take the promised "free" chauffeured car to dinner and they told us "it would be better to walk hire a car because there's a 15 minute wait..." This, after I had confirmed the 'free" ride when we checked in and they even told us what time to come down. I complained to a manger and voila, a car showed up. Unfortunately, the driver practically begged us for a tip and told us they didn't pay him enough and he had been hired at the last minute just for the weekend because the hotel had booked up at the last minute. Sadly, this entire situation was repeated the second night of our stay - almost identical situation - different driver, same story - except this driver got lost and I had to help him find our restaurant!

More: We went to the bar/restaurant and had lunch our first day and it was fine - food was pretty good, no issues. Also had breakfast first morning there. Problem: the hotel charged us for breakfast and it was supposed to be included in the rate! We argued and they gave us the first morning breakfast, but not the second. Then, when we checked out, there was a charge on the bill from the bar that was not ours - it was charged when we were in town having dinner! The hotel said "we can't do anything - the bar is separate - you'll have to call the manager..." So, after two weeks of phone tag with the manager and having the restaurant where we dined call him and tell him we were there when the charge was made, they credited our credit card!

Final Evaluation: Despite the above, this IS a nice hotel - it was all bearable because the hotel personnel were so polite and nice about each issue. I would go back, but, unfortunately, not at the prices they are now charging. We were given a special rate because the hotel was just opening - prices have doubled - I am not kidding - doubled - since we stayed there. The hotel even called us to say "hey, did you enjoy your stay and will you come back?" I told them we would love to but the prices were not justifiable when one can go to the Napa River Inn or River Terrace (just next door, not as plush, but inexpensive!) for half the price. They offered us a "special" but it was still $299 a night. This is a nice property, but it is not worth more than $250 a night - and yes, I realize this is the Napa Valley - but the competition is not charging any more than that and the hotel and the location (while a good location - it is across the Napa River) are not worth what they are now charging.

Great hotel. Exceptional rooms -- we stayed in a one-bedroom suite that was remarkable. Full fridge for storing wine and picnic items. Great advice on restaurants. Walkable to amazing downtown Napa dining including Uva Tratorria, Coles Chophouse, Bounty Hunter, Celadon. Super close to the second location of Taylor's Refresher's featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Good breakfast at The Bank (especially the Two egg breakfast -- organic eggs, with potatoes, toast and meat). Wonderful pool and hot tub. Good, fun crowd.

Each room is privately owned and the Westin is the operator of the property and rents out the rooms. I don't know if they are wholly or fractionally owned. In any event know it is one of those types of properties. It is beautiful and new but know you are basically staying in the town of Napa rather a more secluded area like meadowood or Silverado. Knowing this, the property is intelligently positioned to where you don't know you are a 100 feet from the main street/highway (4 lane road). The pool is in the back of the property which is woodsy because the Napa River is right there. Not the most beautiful river but all you see is trees anyway. There are great cabanas around the pool and cocktail service. The rooms are big, beautiful and new. We paid $245 a night for a basic suite (kitchenette, seperate bedroom and bathroom). It was a little cheaper than the standard rate because we did a non refundable reservation. This hotel worked for us as it was clean, fun to hang out by the pool, was busy with both couples, singles and Families and walking distance to downtown Napa. It is basically a great, centrally located hotel. If you are looking for seclusion and more of the country serenity, then it might not be for you. We would of loved to stay at Meadowood or Calistoga Ranch but would of paid over double....at least. The Westin turned out to be a better choice because we could jog into town for breakfast and walk to Downtown Napa for dinner.

This hotel is for you if you can get for $250 a night versus $650 at some of the other secluded resorts. I would definitely go back. Oh yeah, $20/night ammenity fee for parking, etc..

I have never written a review before but felt compelled to do so in honor of the Westin Verasa. They were absolutely amazing. The entire staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. Anytime we had a request it was taken care of promptly and with a smile. The rooms are awesome, the location great and reasonably priced. I will be back!!!! We had 4 women in a one bedroon suite and had more than enough room--the bathroom was enormous!

We spent 3 nights during the week so the traffic and people were not in abundance like they are on the weekends. The stay was just perfect! The hotel is conveniently located walking distance from everything downtown Napa (all of the wine tasting rooms, restaurants, shops, etc.) and next door to the Oxbow market (a lot of season and fresh foods that make it easy to bring anything back to the hotel and enjoy with a bottle of wine)! It was fun just walking around downtown Napa in the afternoon finding new places (and not have to worry about driving back to the hotel after one too many wine tastings)!

In terms of location, it's an easy drive to/from Silverado Trail and highway 29. There are also a bunch of stores (e.g. Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, a bunch of pharmacies, etc.) to stock up on anything you need for your stay. Can't beat the location.

The service was phenomenal! We ordered room service multiple times and it the most time it took was 15 minutes for our three person order (and the food was very good!). The wait staff, valet, concierge, etc. are all very friendly and knowledgeable about the hotel and the area, and are always willing to help out/assist. We told the front desk that we had a child that may be sleeping, so everyone that came by knocked softly on the door and was quiet while doing their jobs.

Lastly, the pool, spa and fitness room are top notch for the Napa area. We used all of the facilities and enjoyed everything!

The only complaint that I can think of is that very often weekends fill up in advance, so you have to plan your stay further out than most places.

I highly recommend this hotel!

My family of four spent one night here for a combo birthday/Mother's Day quick trip. Our room was upgraded to a suite, which gave us plenty of room. The hotel was exceptionally clean and well maintained; the room was well appointed and quiet. It's not a particularly elegant place in design, but it's not unpleasing either. The pool area was nice for a relaxing break from wine tasting and sight-seeing; there were plenty of pool towels available and nice lounge chairs. When we checked in we noticed our room lacked sufficient towels and the sofa bed wasn't made up; we made a call to reception, and all was taken care of efficiently. Not many toiletry amenties were supplied--just basic shampoo and one bar of soap, but it was fine for one night. The staff were all friendly and patient. We did not eat at the hotel.

The location is perfect for anyone wishing to explore downtown Napa, which has some wonderful wine tasting rooms and restaurants (try the Vintner's Collective!). The nearby Oxbow Marketplace is fun for picking up picnic supplies to bring to wineries. We especially enjoyed the bread we got at the Model Bakery.

I have to be honest, I read some of the reviews before making my reservation and I was a bit worried that they might be true.
Well, our experience was nothing less that amazing from start to finish. Yes, there is some room to improve, but the staff is so eager and friendly it makes up for the little things that we noticed. The front desk staff is friendly , and Chris took very good care of us when we got in that night. It is a beautiful hotel in general, and the pool and hot tub are rarities for a Napa Hotel, so that was GREAT! We were served icy cocktails while sitting poolside in one of the Cabanas, and ended up spendin the whole day by the pool. The next day we did the wine tasting thing, and the Hotel Concierge wes great at setting up some wonderful places for us to visit. Especially nice was a visit to Cliff Lede Vineyards in Yountville, this was the BEST tastin experience we have EVER had!
We only stayed the two nights but we will be back very soon. This is the only hotle like this in Napa, and even though they are new, and are still getting adjusted, it is by far my favorite spot in the Valley for a relaxing weekend.
ALSO, the Oxbow center and downtown Napa are within very easy walking distance.
