“Beautiful Hotel”
Reviewed 22 September 2012

Simply put, the hotel is immaculate. From the outside to the rooms, everything has a beautiful upscale modern look. The rooms themselves are very nicely decorated with ample space that makes you feel you are in a studio apartment rather than a hotel room. Very little outside noise so you will have no problem getting a restful sleep. We were over the outside bar area and barely heard any noise from the people below us. The beds were perfect, not too plush but also not too stiff. I absolutely loved the rain shower head in the bathroom. The only flaw is the lack of a shower door to prevent water leaking out onto the bathroom floor (easily rectified by placing a washcloth over the bottom edge at the corner so the water drips back into the shower area).
The staff were extremely welcoming and very helpful directing us to everything in the city area as well as giving advice on the best vineyards to visit. They truly go out of their way to make you feel as if you are a regular patron instead of a first time tourist.
The location of the hotel is on the main street of Napa and within walking distance to several shops, wine tasting rooms and restaurants as well as about a 10 minute direct walk to the Oxbow Market.
Overall, I was blown away by the hotel but wasn't too impressed with downtown Napa itself. But then again, how often are you going to stay in town instead of spending your day visiting the local wineries!

We had no idea what to expect from this hotel, especially as it had changed its name from Avia to Andaz in between our booking a room for three nights and arriving to check in. But we were very pleasantly surprised.

The location in downtown Napa means that local amenities, shops, restaurants, downtown tasting rooms, the river, the wine train and the fabulous Oxbow Public Market can all be easily reached on foot.

The decor inside the building is very attractive, with new furnishings and striking artwork. Our room was immaculate, and the provision of complimentary snacks and (non-alcoholic) drinks, plus complimentary fast (almost 2Mbps upload and 2Mbps download) WiFi was much appreciated. The bed was comfortable and with no outside noise (good soundproofing) a good night's sleep usually came easily.

The hotel "hosts" check in guests, take suitcases up to rooms and even pour complimentary glasses of wine to anyone who happens to be in the hotel lobby. The effect is a charming and relaxed atmosphere. They've thrown out the reception desk - instead hosts check you in on their iPads. The only flaw with this system is that at busy times you may be seated to wait while more demanding guests march up to hosts and effectively jump the queue.

The next big surprise is the high quality of the food in the restaurant, which serves breakfast every day and dinner from Tuesday to Saturday. Dishes that stand out include the barramundi, and a dessert based around a very light chocolate sponge.

The make or break factor in the world of hospitality is, of course, the people. And this is where the Andaz excels. Everyone we spoke to, from the telephone operator to the restaurant team, were welcoming, helpful and friendly. Hosts and concierges are knowledgable and passionate about what they do. A few deserve a special mention. Elsie was the first host we met and throughout our stay she always made the effort to greet us - and remembered our names. Serving breakfasts in the restaurant, Daniel was an extremely charming host, as was Adam, serving dinner in the evening. Susan, the concierge, found several complimentary wine tasting vouchers for us to use in downtown Napa, which helped us to make the most of our day exploring the city.

This hotel is a real asset for Napa and we would gladly return and hopefully have a longer stay on our next visit.

A great change of pace. We have stayed at the Andaz in NYC and it is nothing like this one. This hotel was converted last week from a Hyatt Avia to a Hyatt Andaz and it was well done. The modern efficient check-in on I pads works for me. The rooms were nicely decorated and very welcoming. Our corner room had a outside patio with a table and four chairs and two lounge chairs. A great place to have your own little private party or have breakfast on.

The staff couldn't help you enough. If you asked anyone for anything, it was handled immediately. Most times you didn't have to ask. They valet park for a fee or you can self park.

We only ate at the restaurant for breakfast and the service wasn't the fastest, but the food was good and the fresh squeezed orange juice was great.

Being in the heart of downtown gave us the opportunity to explore the city.

Room Tip: Room 208 is the corner with the patio.

I just returned from Napa and had a great vacation. Andaz/Napa is a nice hotel, in a great location in downtown Napa. The location is second to none because you can walk to about 100 different restaurants and the wineries are a short ride up the road. The hotel is in the middle of trying to become a "chic" style hotel. It's not working. The people are superficial and disingenuous. The customer service is not at a level that is close to what I expected. Rooms not made up, excuses instead of apologies, a hotel bar that doesn't serve any type of liquor that you would recognize (all liquor is local stuff. I thought Napa was "wine country"). When I want to have a drink, I want what I want. Unfortunately, not here. Maybe that's why the bar is empty every night. The whole atmosphere is that they're trying hard to be different (like chic) and they are being different but not in the way that they would like. The rooms are nice and the beds are very comfortable. Again, being downtown was a huge "plus". My opinion is that if they were just a high service hotel, with their location, they would have more business than they knew what to do with. The entire staff is poorly trained and anyone in a service business knows that excuses don't fly. They should hire people with an outgoing personality. Business is people and Andaz still needs a lot of work.

We had a master tub suite. This is a comfortable room with a separate sitting area. Great large bathroom.
Service slow in restaurant for breakfast. Breakfast was good. Not the most luxurious hotel, but great for the price.

I recently stayed at the AVIA Napa, soon to be Andaz Napa) and it was a good overall experience. It is in the heart of downtown Napa within walking distance to all of the local shops, restaurants, and bars. If you plan on staying downtown then this would make a great choice. The parking was free if you did self-park in the deck just behind the hotel. It was a breeze getting in and out of the city from Avia to go explore Napa and the surrounding areas. A few areas of improvement would be to get a bit more organized in the lobby and restaurant. We stood around for almost ten minutes along with other patrons waiting to just speak with the hostess in regards to the wait for breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Having to wait at all was a first for me when it came to breakfast at a hotel. This was due to very limited seating. Also, with no formal front desk it is a tad confusing who to speak with regarding check in, recommendations, etc. Overall I would still recommend this hotel for the rooms, location, and value.

We were only here for a short time, but our Master tub suite on the top floor was great! The staff were beyond helpful and genuinely very nice. The fire side patio is a must with a nice bottle of wine.

The restaurant was pretty weak - we waited 40 min on a quite Thursday morning for pancakes before having to leave without our food to catch our limo.

So short story, stay hear but don't bother with the restaurant as there are so many options in walking distance.
