“An urban vibe in a foodie paradise”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

I loved the spacious rooms and the urban vibe of this small boutique hotel. It has the consistency one expects from Hyatt, but with a surprising level of excellence. My room was large, boasted a terrific bathroom, and included several complimentary items in the snack bar.

The public spaces for this hotel are small and the restaurant is forgettable, but the location far outweighs any inconveniences one may have in this small hotel. Surrounded by downtown Napa, including cool shops and great restaurants, this hotel makes a walk-able epicenter for Napa, unlike many of the resorts in the area that require lots of driving.

We stayed here for Valentine's Day and were able to get a 3-nights-for-2 deal. This is probably one of the best hotels that I have stayed in, at least in the U.S.

We didn't partake of the bar, restaurant or other hotel amenities, so this is more a review of the hotel room itself, which is overall most important to me when I travel. I also upgraded the room with a service they provide, which allows you to automatically upgrade your room type at check-in if you agree to pay beforehand. I didn't get the huge tower suite, but we got a nice fireplace.

The room we stayed in was extremely large: we had a seating area (we didn't use it, but it would have been great for friends if we brought them back here) and a fireplace separating it from the bedroom. There was also a huge soaking tub in the bedroom, which was a little worrisome - just don't splash about. The shower was a nice size as well. Will definitely try to get reservations here again early enough to get a good price.

Pros:
+ Huge room, huge bathtub, large shower
+ Great value
+ Friendly staff
+ Good location in downtown - walk to places like Morimoto, Allegria
+ Pretty quiet room

Cons:
- Parking isn't attached to the hotel and is part of a shared parking structure
- Not all rooms have a very good view, but it's not a big deal

Room Tip: Call to ask for deals

This hotel is in a great location if you are interested in exploring Napa Valley and the many wineries located in that area. Being in downtown there are a number of excellent restaurants and shopping within walking distance. The hotel itself has a refreshing at home atmosphere that was very appealing. We were offered a complimentary glass of wine at checkin by one of the Hosts. The Breakfast in the hotel restaurant is outstanding and the rooms are comfortable. The hotel hosts complimentary wine tastings and massages in the lobby every night from 5-6. The team at this hotel is outstanding and will make you feel very much at home. The nicest thing about the Andaz was our arrival. We were cranky after the airplane ride and then rental car to Napa. The parking was right in front of the hotel and the valet whisked the car away and took our bags. OK, that is not remarkable. But then we were greeted by a lovely lady who sat us down and informed us of the hotel and its accoutrements and was, in general , genuinely eager to help us anyway she could……Nice.

Two negatives about the Andaz: 1. The hallways and our room were not well lighted and it was hard to read at night 2. The breakfast in the main dining room was bad at any price (and especially the price the hotel charges. A better bet is the oatmeal in the hotel lobby for $7.00.

On the plus side, my bed was perfect for my taste in mattress and high quality sheets. The decor of the hotel is tastefully Napa and quite modern without going overboard. The location of the hotel was terrific and I could roll out of my lovely bed and go for an early morning walk or go to a great gym close to the hotel (at 6:00 AM the gym was hopping ). Wine tastings are apparently held every night in the lobby and were very, very good. Tip: if you are packing one or two bottles of wine in your suitcase, there is a store down the street on the opposite side of the hotel and on a corner, (sorry I can't remember the name) who will sell you a wine bag so that if the bottle breaks, it won't ruin your clothes.

We were extremely pleased with our stay at the Andaz. A very lovely property right in the heart of downtown Napa, the rooms are comfortably appointed and extremely comfortable. We were greeted at the front door by two nice receptionists - one who brought us each a glass of complimentary wine, and the other who efficiently checked us into our upgraded loft room on the third floor. The modern rooms are remarkably quite, clean and spacious. We were grateful the hotel recommended two great wine tasting rooms a couple of blocks from the hotel where we could sample the best wine of the valley without driving all over the place. We will definitely return to this hotel when we are back in the area.

The Hyatt Andaz is a great base of operations if one is exploring the wine country. We did Not upgrade to one of their loft rooms but our room was comfortable and had all the amenities. Of particular pleasure to my wife and I was a shower that was not part of a bath tub but just a large flat shower. We used the dining room for breakfast and while the food was good the staff could only be described as overwhelmed. The service left a great deal to be desired. The front desk and bell staff were very helpful in suggesting places to eat and providing directions. While the hotel does not have a fitness center it does have relationship with a nearby gym. The Hyatt will not disappoint.
