Description: Carpe Diem offers a sophisticated, yet casual dining experience in the heart of downtown Napa. Our enthusiastic staff and lively atmosphere bring uniqueness to the table. An ever-changing wine list and family share-plate style menu elevates the dining experience from a mechanical process to a convivial experience. As an innovative restaurant, we modify our menu on the last Friday of every month. Executive Chef Scott Kendall creates original dishes that our guests would not anticipate. Their most enjoyed plates include the ostrich burger with cranberry coriander compote, creamy brie and truffle fries or the housemade burrata which is mozzarella heaven served with cabernet sea salt, basil crystals and grilled bread. The chefs also keep things fresh with the soup of the moment and chef's selection of tacos updated weekly with seasonal ingredients. Guests are invited to personalize the dishes "Carpe style" by adding an organic poached duck egg and crispy pancetta to any plate. Wines and beers are expressly selected to compliment the food, enhancing the culinary experience at Carpe Diem. Our team is constantly searching for new wines and beers that will pleasantly surprise both locals and visiting guests. Carpe Diem Brewing Co. is excited to share our beers exclusively at the restaurant with eight constantly rotating tap handles alongside other local craft brews. Some of our unique wines include Outcast, Rosalynd, and Keever. Our extensive wine list with over twenty wines by the glass entices our guests to sample something new and discover the perfect pairing with their meal.

“Great Small dishes”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

On a busy night in downtown Napa when you are hungry and tables are in short supply the bar at Carpe Diem is a delightful port in the storm, very tasty, great staff and a wonderful wine collection.

“Fine Food, Wine & Service. Highly Recommended.”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

We had a reservation for Carpe Diem but arrived early and were instantly welcomed in. From that moment our dining experience was superlative in many ways, and it’s difficult to know where to begin. Perhaps the most remarkable thing is the hardest to relate: one of the specials was an heirloom tomato bisque with a lemon crema, which we had as a shot (also available as a cup and bowl) but I would recommend ordering a vat if you can. A perfect balance of acidity and sweetness showcasing the KAPOW tomato flavour. The next best was, of all things, the house fries (with harissa – I’m thinking a kind of tossed harrisa spice mix) with Parmesan shavings and aioli dip. You could hear these fries coming – that urgent rustle that tells you they are darn crispy and that deliciousness is fast approaching.

We also ordered a variety of other things: a charcuterie plate, the taco specials, and finally an unctuous cheese plate with a big bold red wine. Almost all the flavours were what I’d describe as bang-the-doors open: big and bold, no holds barred, but with great balance and textures.

For all of our dishes, our incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and professional server Kimberley, upon request, suggested interesting and different wines that also catered to our various preferences. It turned out that she is also a manager and is involved in buying wine, which told me that an educated palate is never far away to offer help in this fine restaurant.

I recommend Carpe Diem highly. There’s nothing quite like enjoying fine food and wine in a relaxed atmosphere, surrounded by other people who are clearly enjoying fine food and wine just like you.

“So disappointed....”
Reviewed 19 July 2014 via mobile

I've Been coming to Carpe Diem since it opened and I bring many guests here. I have to say that I was sadly disappointed tonight when the service was very sub-standard and the food has gone down hill. I waited 10 minutes to get a glass of wine at the bar before we got our table then waited another 15 minutes before we even saw a waitress. Then a long wait for wine and dinner. My entree came out 10 minutes before my friend's, which made it impossible to eat food hot. Food was disappointing as well. The scallop apetizer sounded great but there was barely any scallop. So scarce that I really doubt there was more than an ounce if total scallop there. The lamb Harissa was perfectly cooked but so small that hardly could believe it was an entree. The ostrich burger was pretty good but very little cheese and not one condiment to go with it and very few fries on the plate as well. A tiny bit of ketchup was served with the truffle fries and it took another 10 minutes to get extra. Rachel, the manager did apologize for the poor service but seemed
Annoyed at our disappointment. Sorry folks but I won't be bringing people here again. Ill stick with oenotri, angele, and cole's.......

“Great Service”
Reviewed 13 July 2014 via mobile

Came here based on TA reviews. We were seated right away in the bar area. Service was great , I can't remember our servers name but she was in the bar as well. She was attentive and had suggestions on the menu. The wine list has lots of selections , a little pricey but hey it's Napa . Our server recommended the Burrata - yum ! This was the best thing that we had and at $14 the portion was very good for an appy and sharing. The broccoli salad was good but small for $11. I had the chefs fish tacos , with mango slaw . 3 very small tacos with hardly any fish and the flavour was just ok nothing special. My husband had the Thai Curry Prawns , 1/2 cup rice with 5 small prawns and sauce - no veggies . Small for $18 and is considered a larger plate on the menu. Flavour was ok but a little too much Kiefer lime , it was over powering( and we know Thai food)My husband was happy that we had appy's since the serving was so small. Maybe it was an off day in the kitchen .... The service was great but would not eat here again.

“Awesome Quack ‘n cheese”
Reviewed 9 July 2014

Carpe Diem is a wine bar and restaurant in downtown Napa easy to find and with two parking lots nearby. One a flat lot and one is a multi-level garage, practically across the street.
After eating at many of the outstanding and renowned restaurants through the valley we decide we wanted to try something different, something new, inventive and fun. Carpe Diem delivered. It is mall with a large wine program including wines from the US and Internationally. Excellent list and priced very fairly.
For dinner we did our usual play on variety and sharing. We started with the Braised Short Rib Tamales, there are two to an order so we split them and loved the presentation and flavor. Great start!
Next we shared the Quack ‘n Cheese, a mixture of fabulous cheeses, duck confit, toasted bread crumbs and by special order, topped with crisp pancetta. Wow, absolutely fantastic!
Next we ordered the Ostrich burger. We have had ostrich many times before and always enjoyed it but his burger was one of the best burgers ever. It is dressed with a caramelized onion and cranberry reduction, brie cheese, and a side of truffle fries. Memorable! I have thought about this burger for days.
Service was also excellent. The staff is working hard to balance their personable communications with their customers while meeting the patron’s service expectations.
We hardly ever order dessert, but the house made Twixt Bar with salted caramel ice cream was beyond our control. We could not pass this up and so happy we didn't.
Carpe Diem is a must if you are in Napa. You will not be disappointed if creativity and fresh flavor is your culinary preference.
