“Lovely Scenery and Tradition”

Silverado Resort - North and South Courses
Ranked #5 of 27 Outdoor Activities in Napa

The Clubhouse of the Silverado Resort rises up to greet its guests like Tara; a classic white mansion with columns and endless views of misty mountains and velvet green fairways. Fortunately, there is progress being made in upgrading the villas and cottages to reflect the grandeur of the clubhouse, but it seems there is a long way to go. We were lucky that Nick at the reception desk was able to secure a remodeled villa for us, and greatly appreciate his professionalism and demeanor. There is no business center or even a printer for boarding passes, and there are other small glitches that make a visit here less than perfect. That said, it's beautiful, sunny Napa, California, and given the reasonable rates, a venue worthy of a stay or round of golf.

The condo like rooms were good sized and very comfortable. It's a great place for golfers, although we didn't golf during our stay. the grounds are lovely and the restaurant and bar served great food with wonderful service.

Both the North and South courses are well worth playing. Both provide broad vistas, mature trees, challenging golf and helpful staff. Most would say that the North course is the one to prefer and that is quite right, but the South course has much to offer. Unfortunately, the condition of the courses is not equal. The South course seems like the poor sister, particularly as to the condition of the bunkers. Greenside bunkers had little/no sand, were seldom raked and offered hardpan like conditions on many holes. Just not good. Otherwise, things were much better, though perhaps just a bit below the conditions on the North. So, go North if you can, but you'll have a good day either way.

Only July 3rd, Silverado hosts Napa's Independence Day celebration with great fireworks. It is an amazing display for a country club to host the activities modest size town.

Traveling with groups to Napa usually entails two things, great food and great wine. As the only golfer in the group and to avoid impacting everyone else's day, jumping out ahead of the first tee time at 6:30-6:45am and playing in 2.5 hours is the only way to play ( something done at many courses ).

The response I get from the pro shop is the most unhelpful, unwilling to work with, and disrespectful response I have ever dealt with. This is a destination. It isn't a place you can just try again next week. Moreover, challenging them on that stance should never lead to them hanging up on you, ever. Having played several world class courses this year, I would love to be able compare them in this review, but bad customer service has stopped that.
