We stayed at the river inn as part of a package. It was a very comfortable property with large sized rooms. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. Hope to go back there some time again!

Generally a nice hotel, pretty good service, but not worth the price. $370 a night, but no pool or anything. The area right around the hotel wasn't very nice, under construction. Parking was a pain. The restaurants (angele and Sweetie Pies) were overpriced and not good at all. Couldn't finish dinner at angele and our 3 year old wouldn't even touch the macaroni and cheese, which smelled horrible.

Trip started a little rocky. Did not get the room amenity I wanted despite arriving very early on a Friday. Location also looked better on the website. It is separated from the rest of downtown by 2 very bare blocks (business wise), so you have to walk a little bit to get to any other destination. Room was a bit small, as was the bathroom. So after paying 350 a night, I was definitely a little worried.

However, we had a nice snack at Bounty Hunter and caught a live band at the park only 2 blocks away so things were looking up and the room was cozy. My wife also liked the onsite amenities including Sweet Tooth (pastry/chocolcates/coffees) . Morning breakfast is delivered and the food was very tasty. Definitely not Costco muffins here. And Napa downtown is a fairly leisurely 20 minute drive to the first vineyards, so certainly close enough for anyone driving. After spending the whole day at wine tastings, we completed the day with dinner at Allegria, and the food was exquisite. We were too tired to go to Silo's (onsite dance/music club) but it was nice that it was an option.

So, our stay improved as it went on, and I have no regrets staying there. If you don't mind a short walk, you are close to most downtown destinations, and if you don't want to leave, you have 2 resturants, a "sweets" shop, a music/dance club, and a view of the river.

I can't say enough about the Napa River Inn. The service is excellent. The rooms are so comfortable with big soft beds, fireplaces , marble bathrooms , breakfast served in your room . I have stayed twice and will stay again in the fall. With many restaurants within walking distance and wine tasting and music on the property, you don't need to leave it.

Found this hotel through Google maps when seeking downtown hotels on the River in Napa. Then I checked the comments from travellers on TripAdvisor and finally visited the web site and I was very impressed with the web site. The fact that parking is free and breakfast was included in the nightly rate made our decision very simple to make. I would stay again if I get back to Wine Country.

I booked Napa River Inn with some trepidation due to the critical reviews. The main reason for booking there was that it was the most reasonably priced option for us, and we needed 3 rooms for our 40th anniversary trip with our children, their spouses and our 15 month old grandchild.
We were in for a pleasant surprise. This was our 4th stay at different hotels in Napa Valley, and Napa River Inn was great. The staff was extraordinary, with each and every one going out of their way to accommodate us. (We took the walking tour of Napa and tour guide said staff is better paid than at most hotels and have all worked there for an extended period.) The rooms were large and lovely. They included all the amenities we wanted, including balcony, magnifying mirror and robes. No problem using air conditioning, or with its location.
Breakfast was delicious but I would recommend ordering it to your room, even if you want to eat on the lovely patio. Found Sweetie Pie's staff got overwhelmed and confused, and reluctant to provide food to go, although there were no tables large enough for our group outside the bakery.
I would ask for a room on the 2nd floor next time as we did hear noise from above us. No problem with noise from room net door although there was an adjoining door.
Location was great. We only went as far north as St. Helena, which took forever on 2 lane highway. We had dinner reservations in Yountville which was a very quick trip as highway is 4 lanes to there..
We would gladly stay here again.
