“The only place to stay in Newport Beach”
Reviewed 9 August 2011

Absolutely loved it here. Couldn't have been happier. The rooms were lovely, with all the facilities you could need. Very clean and comfortable. Value for money is brilliant. Roof top provides beautiful views with the harbour on one side and beach on the other. Really good location with walking distance to a host of restaurants and bars. Staff couldn't do more for you, the fresh cookies, amazing breakfasts, beach chairs, on all hand. I loved the dvd collection which was free, we got a different film when we came in every night, a great idea.

Our family has been coming here for years. The reason for our return year after year...month after month is the feeling that is's our second home. The staff is like our second family. The ones you truly love! They are always so willing and helpful with just about anything. The breakfast is the perfect way to start out any day. Having everything we need for the beach is right there. You don't have to run out and purchase anything..they have it. Returning back from the perfect day at the beach they have cookies waiting. fruit always available. To end off the perfect day they have a wide selection of movies to choose from at no additional cost. They will always be 5 out of 5 stars in our family!!! Special thanks to Ralph and John!!! Clay, you will always be missed.
With much Love

We loved our stay at the Bay Shores Peninsula Hotel! I am still blown away that the rooms are so inexpensive. The hotel and rooms are clean and very tastefully decorated. The location is perfect, just steps away from the beach and the harbour. And if you don't have an ocean or harbour view room, the hotel has a rooftop deck with views of both! We loved the free daily breakfast, daily fresh baked cookies, and free movie rentals. Another big perk was the fresh fruit basket in our room, replenished daily. We will definitely be back and I'd recommend to anyone staying in Newport Beach to stay at this great little hotel.

We chose to stay at this hotel based on the tripadvisor reviews and were not let down!
Although the hotel is a little "backpackerish" I think the quality of your stay will definitely depend on your neighbours!
We had no neighbours although there were some backpackers across the way who were a little loud at night.
The front desk fed our parking meter as we were unable to get a park at the hotel (there are about 10 carparks for the hotel guests) they also recommended a place for dinner, however we were very disappointed with the food at the recommended place. The staff were super helpful and willing to go the extra mile.
Our room had EVERYTHING we might possibly need suring our stay, and there were things you could borrow from the front desk to make your stay more homely such as DVDs. You could also borrow toys to take to the beach which was novel! The front desk provided home cooked biscuits for afternoon tea and breakfast.
Whilst the hotel has a definite appeal to backpackers, those wanting to holiday on a budget will b pleasantly surprised when staying here!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room

Thank you for those kind words from "down under". We're glad you were able to find us from half way around the world! Also thank you for reporting back about the restaurant to which we had referred you. You can be assured that we will remove that establishment from our list of the many very fine restaurants here on the peninsula. Regarding noisy neighbors, this is something we only occasionally have to put up with. Being located in a residential setting we are always substantially more quiet than if we were located on the boardwalk or near the pier with all those late night activities. (Regarding free parking, please note that we actually have 15 on-site parking places in addition to the large city lot across the street where we happily feed your meter when our own lot is full.) Anyway, thank you for the nice review, we hope to have you back again soon! ---Fred Pratt, Owner

If you are looking for one of those five star, noisy, very busy hotels, then this is not for you. If however you are looking for a more down home, clean, quiet cozy place then look no further. From the start the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The place is one block from the beach. As a matter of fact, you can see it from their roof top patio. The rooms are clean and nice. They have all the usual amenities, little refrigerator, safe, Tv and the like. But what makes this place special is the staff. When I got there I figured out that I couldn't fit my full size Tundra into their parking area. I parked right across the street at a metered lot. periodically throughout the day a staff member went out and put money into the meter. They did that as long as my truck was parked there. They have beach equipment that you can borrow for free. And lets not forget the free homemade cookies given out every evening. You really should check this place out!

I spent two nights in this hotel with my wife during our road trip through united states, we changed five hotels in two weeks and none can not be measured with this one, The hotel and rooms are solid, nothing special but without any objections, everything else was perfect, hotel location is in the midle of beach and harbor, when you take breakfast in the morning you can sit on terrace at the roof of hotel and eat with view on ocean, you have all day free coffe with choice of three great branded flavors, in 3 p.m. every day they serve fresh baked chocholate cookies in looby, free in room wi-fi interent, lcd tv, in room safe, everything is very clean, hotel have big collection of dvd movies that you can rent for free and watch in you room, free parking on location, vending machine with cheap prices (coke = 1$), they have toys for kids that you can take to beach, small surf boards, beach towels.... every morning they leave you several newspapers at the door, after cleaning the room cleaners leave you fresh fruits in room, we rented this hotel based on Trip Advisors ratings and this hotel definitely deserves the number 1 rating in Newport beach... at every step of the hotel are details that are there to make you feel more comfortable, the staff is extremely friendly... I could go on much more with compliments.... Next time when we arrive in LA this is the only location that comes to mind !!

From the outside you would likely just drive by it as just another older hotel along the highway. Drive by and miss out on a gem of a place.

As a previous reviewer noted, they want to leave a bad review so that a room will be available for them, I agree!

The Bay Shores Peninsula Hotel is what it is and as advertised. Yes this is an older (40+ years I am guessing) small hotel that has been updated and in my experience is offering cleansiness, service and amenities that can rival or beat some equivalent or larger chain hotels. Friendly, courteous staff that are eager to help you out. Great location only a block from the beach and 4 blocks from McFadden Square and pier. Everythng I read on their website is as I found it (and more) when staying there May 2011.

Morning continental breakfast had very good selection, cookies in the pm and coffee, tea
available all day off lobby.

No pool (beach a block away), no gym (there is one a block away)

I recommend this is place as a reasonably priced, well run hotel for your visit in Newport Beach.
