“Large rooms and elegant furnishings”

We stopped here just for a night, we had booked our room on priceline and didn't expect anything special as most "4 stars" these days often under impress. We were pleasantly surprised as the Fairmont isn't your typical run down marriott or Hilton. The room was larger that what you normally get and the furnishing were elegant and updated. The hotel grounds were very nice as well. We would definitely recommend the Fairmont if you are staying in the newport beach area or if you want to be right next to the john wayne airport.

first of all this is a very nice hotel maybe a little to nice for someone traveling with kids. let me start by saying i had been in LA for 7 days with my children and in a rented van so when i pulled up to this hotel and found out it was 100 percent valet i was very uncomfortable only because when traveling with kids it takes a while to get them and all of there stuff out of the van and with being in front of this nice hotel and a valet person waiting for you makes it uncomfortable. but overall the hotel is very clean and nice my kids enjoyed the heated pool the only other thing is the airport that is near by and you can hear the planes leaving every 5 min so this hotel would be great for business travelers

I've been to this hotel 4 times n the last year and find it convienent and affordable. If you're thinking along the lines of the usual Fairmont "destination" hotels, DON'T, it is an airport hotel and even surpasses that title. The staff are polite and go beyond their duty to help you with your every need. The lounge is comfortable and the food and service are great. I've seen the executive chef come out to meet and greet the clients and the entire staff make you feel comfortable. I've had the pleasure of meeting the executive chef and the Food and Beverage manager and they made it a priority to see that my stay was a comfortable one and my dietary needs were met. I will continue to return to this hotel because of the great treatment I receive every time.

Room Tip: I really enjoy the junior suites because of the huge separate shower and soaker tub.

For those who think that the Fairmont is in Newport Beach, this establishment is more along the lines of the of Costa Mesa area (close to the John Wayne Airport). It is about a 15 minute drive to Newport Beach/Balboa so if you think you're going to walk, think twice. With that being said, the hotel was pleasant but along with the other reviews - it's showing signs of "wear" such as the room furniture & the air conditioning unit which was so loud I had to turn up the TV to hear it. Also, I went to relax in the hot tub only to be told that it someone broke a tile & would be open again the next morning at 6am. Well 9am rolled around & I was told it would be another 30 minutes.Other than that, I enjoyed my stay and I can't say enough for the excellent customer service that was provided by everyone at the Fairmont!

Rooms are very comfortable and beautifully designed. Close to John Wayne airport, South Coast Plaza shopping center and great amenities on site. Will definitely stay there again.

We stayed overnight at this hotel and booked the Executive King Suite with a balcony. The room is huge, with a nice living room area and foyer with an adjacent extra bathroom. The bedroom is also expansive and the bathroom is just gorgeous with a separate tub and shower and even the toilet is separate from the bathroom! Just awesome. The balcony is also pretty big and has a table with two chairs overlooking the parking lot (the view was not too impressive). Bedding and linens were excellent and although the furniture in the room was beginning to show wear, the furnishings made for cozy accommodations. The service is impeccable. The front desk, restaurant and bar staff were all very helpful without being intrusive and at one point, the chef even came out during dinner to see how we were enjoying our meal. Kudos for doing that! The pool area with the cabanas throughout is gorgeous and the fact that the pool is heated makes it an even better treat when the weather gets slightly chilly outside. Overall the property is very nice but I do have to agree with some of the other reviews that it is overpriced. However, if it were to be priced on the excellent service alone then the price is right on. We felt the staff went out of their way, even providing a turn down service and a little treat (bubble bath, rose petals and chocolates) in the evening. We can't say enough good things about the staff and congratulate management for a great team.

Room Tip: Corner suites - high floor

There is a certain level of comfort and luxury that you expect when you stay at and pay for a Fairmont. I was disenchanted to see that this hotel, was just not up to par. The rooms, while nice, were basic. Nothing special. Pretty much what you'd expect from a Hampton Inn or Marriott Courtyard. However, it is NOISY! It was a s if the walls were paper thin because I could hear the people in the rooms on both sides of me and the constant slamming of doors down the hallway. Good thing I brought my trusty earplugs.
I was surprised to notice that the property as a whole needs a little maintenance. There were rusty planters and chipped paint around the property.
I was equally surprised to find out that there in a mandatory valet parking fee of $28 per day. That is absurdly high in my opinion, it's not like the hotel is situated in downtown L.A. The price gouging continued inside where you have to pay for Wi-Fi and the little bottle of water in your room is available for $7.00. That seemed a bit much!
They have obviously geared this place for the business traveler who has a healthy expense account.
Bottom line: I would only recommend staying here if: (1) being super close to the airport was necessary and (2) you can get a super cheap deal on the room to offset the other charges.
Otherwise, there are much nicer and better places to stay in the area that are actually close to the beach.

Room Tip: Bring earplugs if you need to get a good night sleep.
