We took my husband here for Father's Day; made a reservation but still had to wait for our table. The service was EXCELLENT once we were seated. My daughter had eaten at Jacko's before and knew to order a steak sandwich which was perfectly cooked and very flavorful steak served open faced on buttered bread. She also recommended the french fries which were our of this world good! My husband and I ordered Spencer steak which was flavorful, cooked perfectly and a huge portion. My younger daughter, who is a vegetarian, had one entree choice- cheese enchilada (the ravioli and spaghetti have meat in them) and it was just "O.K". There were no vegetarian large dinner salad options. The side salad was home-style (crudely torn up iceberg lettuce) but tasty all the same. There were not a lot of non-alcoholic beverage choices; they only have diet coke and do not have iced tea. The relish tray was really good.
The atmosphere is casual country and family style. Prices were very good for the portions, a true value.
Call and make reservations as this place is often quite busy.

Great place to relax and have a great meal. It’s not fancy, so wear your jeans or better yet, elastic pants!! That way you can eat more. We had the best steak we’ve ever eaten, and could watch the chefs in the “pit” bbqing everything. Service was super friendly, and we never want d for anything. I truly recommend this place!!!!

I will limit this review to the Spencer Steak quality as most people "overrun" this place nightly for the steaks and other meats barbecued outdoors over their red oak rather than the rest of the meal.

The name "Spencer Steak" (along with a Delmonico) have traditionally been alternative substitute names for the Rib-Eye steak, which after the Filet Mignon, is the second best cut of steak meats---preferred for its wonderful tenderness due to the fat marbling throughout this thicker cut. At our table, orders included a Large (20 ounce) Spencer and a Small (16 ounce) Spencer. Both were bbq'd medium-rare and were extra tasty due to the red oak flavor cooked in BUT both lacked the "marbling" and the resulting tenderness expected in a Spencer Steak. Although each was slightly over an inch thick there was no evidence of marbling in either steak which were more like a somewhat chewy Top Sirloin steak. Unless you go to the expense of a Filet Mignon steak (20 ounce) for the most tenderness, recommend having the huge portion of meaty ribs---enough for 2-3 meals!!! Oh, and be sure to get a reservation at 6PM or before but no later than a week in advance!!!

Steak was rather tough. Tasted like they forgot to season it. On the plus side, large portion and cooked to order. Considering how large the BBQ "pit" is, it's a testament to the expertise of the cook that he can pull your steak off the fire at the right time given the number of steaks being cooked concurrently. But it took way too much effort to chew that steak into a state where I could swallow it.

Jocko's is the place ALL the locals told us to go to try Santa Maria style BBQ. Even though we made a reservation we still ended up waiting for about 45 minutes. That wasn't great since we were already hungry, but it was absolutely worth the wait!! The simplicity of the seasonings allowed the steaks flavor to shine through, so every bite was like a party for your taste buds, really, this is probably one of the best steaks I've ever had. It was definitely worth the wait. Now the only issue is getting back to the central coast so I can get the filet mignon next time!
