The staff are very friendly.

The rooms are large and the beds are comfortable. Make sure you check that the fridge is on (as ours was off). The TV has lots of channels. The air-conditioner runs fairly noisy.

Breakfast runs from 0600 and a continental breakfast. There are only 4 tables in the "dining room" so make sure you get in early if you want to eat sitting down! There is a couple of waffle makers and yoghurt, fruit, cereal and juice.

Overall a nice place to stay in Oakhurst.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor. The roof creaked in our ground floor room with people walking around on the...

First the location, despite the name of the hotel it's much further from the park than we anticipated - about 16 miles to the entrance gate and another 26 miles to the valley although Mariposa Grove and Wanoma are closer. As a result we did a 100 mile round trip on each of the 3 days we stayed there, a pleasant drive but it meant we fairly late getting into the valley bottom each day.

The rooms are good, we booked a suite which had an odd layout but it wasn't an issue. Good bathroom with nice fluffy towels and plenty of clothes storage. Outside there was a heated pool & tub (not used).

Breakfast was very basic compared to other hotels we stayed in during our trip with everything in short supply and the coffee was appalling (the worst I've ever tasted), overall it was very poor.

Oakhurst itself is small with limited choices for dining (or at least dining well). While the hotel was OK on our next visit to Yosemite I think we'd find somewhere closer to the park (or in the park if we can afford it) with better restaurant choices nearby.

Dear Guest:

Thank you for your review. I just wanted to personally respond to this review so other potential guests understand that Oakhurst is actually the Southern Gateway to Yosemite. We are located just 14 miles from the entrance to Yosemite National Park. There are not many hotels closer and in fact the Yosemite Southgate Hotel is the only hotel in town that has an elevator and traditional hotel amenities. To stay in The Park is far more expensive and difficult to book. We feel Yosemite Southgate offers the best value and location to Yosemite. The remote and rugged nature of the National Park means that roads are windy and slow going. Oakhurst is the largest gateway community and does offer more dining and shopping options than Mariposa or Groveland.

We'd love to host you again. Book direct with us at yosemitesouthgate.com where you will find our lowest rates. In fact, use the promo code tripadvisor and save even more!

Theoretically this hotel seemed ideal and to be fair our room was clean and the bed comfortable, but everything was badly in need of a make over. The carpets, particularly in the corridors are well past their best and the furnishings in our bedroom must have been the original 70's décor, and the furniture had drilled holes in places presumably for cables then left unfilled.
It was useful to have a fridge in the room, though this broke, was mended, then broke again during our stay, and the girl on reception we mentioned it to on check out seemed indifferent. Our room also had an odd smell as if they were using lots of airfreshner to mask something else, maybe cigarette smoke?
We did find the breakfast worked fine for us, as did the laundry room, thought this again needs refreshing.

Room Tip: We asked for an upstairs room with a view which we had but the road outside is noisy so beware if yo...

Dear Guest:

Thank you for taking the time to leave your honest review. We take such feedback very seriously. We are working very hard to upgrade our facilities and have been making marked improvements continuously. We have repaved our entire parking lot, redone our pool and spa, installed RFID locks, 46 inch LED TVs, new bedding and more. We are definitely working on a more extensive remodel in the coming year, but we do feel the hotel is still in great shape and offers a great value to guests traveling to Yosemite.

We'd love to host you again in the future so you can see all of our improvements and see that this hotel hits the potential you and I both see. Book direct with us at yosemitesouthgate.com where you will find our lowest rates. In fact, use the promo code tripadvisor and save even more!

I was staying with a friend for 3 nights at the yosemite south gate hotel and I can recommend it. It has big clean rooms, a decent mattress and I am happy to say, that my room had no bed bugs (I always check for bed bugs these days). The hotel has a spa facility, which I did not use because I was too tired from hiking but it looked nice. Room 208, which we had, has a huge balcony, which is lovely for sitting outside with a glass of wine. As far as I could see, most rooms did not have a balcony. A tiny negative for this room is the location next to the ice machine, but I did not mind that, because I always sleep in Hotels with earplugs.

People have written quite a bit about the breakfast and I agree that the selection is not great. Also there is a bit of a problem with the seating, but we did not notice it that much because the hotel was not full due to the rim fire. Personally I would have preferred it if breakfast would not have been included (with a lower price for the rooms of course), but at least the waffles were very good.

The hotel is about 15-20 Minutes from the south entrance of Yosemite. It takes about 70-80 minutes to the Yosemite valley but this goes for pretty much all the hotels around Yosemite. Oakhurst has pretty much everything you need and is a nice little town.

Our room was large and comfortable. We were there for two nights and found the location good for visiting the Nat'l. Park. Just wish the mornings had started off a little better. The in-room coffee was awful! It was very weak. The "breakfast" coffee was a little better, but not significantly. Otherwise, it was a pleasant stay.

We are from the Uk and were very happy with this hotel. We arrived after a long day walking round the beatiful Yosemite national park. We arrived quite late and were tired but the lady behind the counter was very welcoming and enthusiastic about the area. Nothing was too much trouble and she took time to explain where everything was. When we got to the room we were delighted by the size and by the facilities.
We only stayed one night before our trip dictated we needed to move on to the next destination but wish we could have stayed longer. There are plenty of restaurants etc close by in a pretty little town.
Overall the hotel is clean, the staff all very friendly and the breakfast and facilities very good....we will return in the future.
