Ok, so it is close to Yosemite and that's were the praise stops. It is worn down, the pool is filthy, there was food in the fridge, there was a used shampoo in the shower, the room was dirty and they reused a soaked thru floor mat in the bathroom. The hostess was indifferent to us and if we hadn't gotten the room thru a deal, it would be terrible money to spend. Do not stay there!!!

We stayed on our own separate lodge 15 minutes away from the reception area.

The good

It was really nice to have a place like this for us own. The lodge was spacious and there were enough beds for 10 people. Both the lodge and the furninshing were stylish and the place included all the kitchen equipment etc. that we needed during our stay.

The bad

The yard was clearly unfinished and had nails etc. on the ground which you usually have when renovation is still on. The washing machine was only accessible from outside and it required a handyman to get inside the washing room. 1/2 kitchen sinks were plugged (fixed during our stay), one heater didn't work upstairs (fixed during our stay), the upstairs shower was leaking to our living room as the pipes were clearly visible (fixed during our stay) and the downstairs shower gave only cold water (the water wasn't still hot after fixing).

The service/ communication was good the whole time and without this many problems, Mountain Trail Lodge would be good value for your money. Now, we kind of felt not being delivered even though we liked the lodge in general.

First of all, the staff who greeted us and checked us in were wonderful and the view of the mountains was pleasing and the location was convenient to Yosemite. They are pet-friendly ($25 fee) which is the main reason we booked this facility. That being said, the room felt unclean and the water smelled terrible. We had a fairly good night's sleep despite the fact that the rooms sit right above a busy highway. Come morning we made coffee only to discover, after brewing, the basket was full of ants! Guess we should have checked beforehand but REALLY? It was disgusting to see them floating on top of our coffee! We ended up going into town to a Valero station to get fresh coffee. There was no one in the office to report this to when we checked out so we emailed the owner. Response......crickets. Could not recommend this place!

We booked the day before because our original accommodation in Yosemite was on another road blocked by a landslide and meant a three hour detour to get in to the park.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, the location was pretty close to the park, the shower was powerful, the views were beautiful and the rooms were quite large but that is where it stops unfortunately. The room just felt a bit grubby and very, very much a two star hotel. There were little flies in the sink of the bathroom and the sink didn't drain properly and not really worth the price they charge. I think a change of decor would drastically change the look of the rooms. The bathrooms were clean but the colour of the tiles and black coloured grout just made it look grubby. There was a shower caddy that had a marbled effect that a previous reviewer had said was mouldy. Pretty sure it wasn't, just the design.

That being said, it was suitable as an emergency booking as we quite literally were only there to sleep.

If you accept this place is a solid two star and don't need the fancy bits and pieces then it is a good option to explore the park and other areas.

We didn't use the pool or BBQ so can't comment on those.

Shower was taped to the wall. Water smells like a sewer. Although fairly clean it was very tiny and the worst hotel we have ever stayed in our 45 years of travel. Orbitz charged us $119 plus taxes. Later we discovered the hotel only charges $49 if reservation is made directly with them.

Room tip: I would not recommend any rooms.
