“good location, nice and spacious rooms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2013

we stayed at the hounds tooth inn for one night. The room was large and clean. The bed was large and the matrass was ok.
The breakfast was very good compared to other venues we were. Consisting of quiche, pastries, a fruitbowl, cereal and more.
We were able to sit outside in peace and quiet in the evening, talking in the setting sun about our day.
The airco was pretty loud so it's a good idea to just switch it off and open a window instead.

We stayed at the Inn for one night because we wanted to be a short drive from Zip Yosemite the next morning. We were disappointed in what the Inn offered for the price. Late afternoon wine and chocolate chip cookies were a nice idea, though something healthier than cookies would've been appreciated, but the breakfast offered was inadequate (tiny wedges of quiche, unripe melon, yogurt, pastries), and if we'd be doing something demanding like hiking in Yosemite it wouldn't have been a good start to the day. My fiance is allergic to dairy and if we hadn't had our own food with us, he would've been out of luck. The Best Westerns we stayed at the rest of the trip offered a much better breakfast at about one-third the room price. The room had insufficient surfaces for placing things like toiletries, and the mattress had valleys. We came to the conclusion that the Inn isn't actually an older building rehabbed but a newer building made to look like one.

My BF & I were spending a few days in Yosemite but waited too long & were only able to get 1 Sunday night at Yosemite Lodge. We started looking around for alternatives near the outskirts and EVERYTHING was booked solid. I was about to give up but my friend found this place in Oakhurst which we took even though it meant taking a detour of our usual route. I wasn't thrilled about the idea but melted when it took us through some quaint little towns I never knew existed. But the real suprise was when we arrived at the Hounds Tooth Inn and were greeted with sincere enthusiasm (hate that fakey stuff) and a separate cottage on the hill that was FABULOUS - spacious, fireplace, jacuzzi in room, full kitchen, tons of windows, decorated beautifully with antiques, rocking chairs out on the porch with magnificent views & total privacy. It was a gorgeous full moon and warm summer night so we put a blanket out on the private lawn and.....well anyway I fell in love with the place and wanted to cancel Yosemite. Of course we couldn't and it was fine as we had several fun stops along our way - the Sugar Pine Railroad, Bass Lake (eat at Ducey's for a real excellent meal), and then the magnificent entry to Glacier Point.
This place would be perfect for honeymooners. They also have 12 (?) rooms in the main house and I got a chance to look at a couple of them. They were quite a bit smaller than the Summer House Cottage but very cute, nicely decorated & both had the in-room jacuzzi's.
The wine is generously served starting at 4 until 9 so many of the guests were enjoying that.

Room Tip: For privacy & lots of room (inside & out) ask for the Summer House Cottage.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights in early July. Upon opening the door to the very spacious and nicely appointed king room we were instantly met by 3 very large dirty looking stains on the carpet. The breakfast was woefully inadequate for the nightly price paid compared with other bed and breakfast experiences. The evening wine service a nice touch. Easy drive to Yosemite and into town of Oakhurst for dinner and supplies.

We stayed for two nights, and found the Hounds Tooth comfortable, convenient for Yosemite and very friendly. It is now run by a lady called Karen who was welcoming and warm. Our room (7) was spacious, with a good firm bed, efficient air conditioning and functional bathroom. The hotel is owned by the same woman who owns the Comfort Inn down the road, so the all-in-one moulded bath unit was instantly recognisable. Breakfast was homemade (cakes, fresh fruit salad) toast. Coffee is out of a thermos, but drinkable. Juice out of a jug, and also fine. The worse thing is the pillows - huge things like footballs, REALLY u comfortable. I ended up using a cushion. Which was flatter. However, there is a great porch area, the building overlooks greenery and is a couple of miles out of town, so it's a bit quieter than being on the main drag. The decor is dated and cheesy - it's an American's idea of Victorian England - and the ornaments and pictures are really soppy, but we found it a comfortable, clean and convenient base for two days exploring Yosemite.

Room Tip: Room 7 overlooked the back of the property, was spacious and quiet. I's also next to the fore es...

We only stayed here one night and I thought it was good. Our room was nice and spacious, the breakfast was small but homemade, and the location was unbeatable (both to Yosemite and in Oakhurst). The downside was the thin walls. Unless the air conditioner was actively running I was hot. A few times I woke up in the middle of the night to either pull up or down the covers. The staff may not have been the most friendly but they were definitely not rude. But overall I thought it was a very cute B&B. I would come back I think.

Our experience was not terrible, but it could've been much better.
The room was nice, well decorated, but the AC was very noisy and it woke me up a few times at night. There was a light bulb missing in one of the lamps. The bed was awful, not firm at all, which gave me a backache the next day.
Breakfast selection was what you can expect from an Inn, however somethings were not fresh. The bagel was stale, and the orange juice tasted really acid.
Overall the place is okay, but not very well kept.
