“Great Bargain At A Well-Run Hotel”
Reviewed 10 February 2014

The place looks awesome inside! I would strongly suggest that you order a room that faces inside where the pool is located. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by friendly and efficient desk clerks (Evelyn was the one I dealt with) who instantly make your stay a good one.

The rooms are modern, clean, comfortable, and spacious. The bed was comfortable and clean.

It's located just one block from some good restaurants in Jack London Square, and that place alone is a good tourist attraction; especially if the weather's good.

Another good thing about this hotel, is that it's located only 5 or 6 blocks from the BART. The BART is an awesome, easy to learn rapid transit station that just about removes the need for a car. Thus, you can get a great weekend getaway at the Inn without busting your wallet.

The only minor problem I had was with their confusing website. It was confusing because it doesn't tell you that your free breakfast at the coffee shop next door is nullified if you use a AAA discount. However, Evelyn's great service compensated for the confusion when she gave me a comp for the next visit at the in ($99 next time!).

It's a great place to stay! The area is just a bit sketchy, but honestly there are so many friendly people around Jack London Square that you'll have a great time!

Room Tip: Make sure not to confuse this very nice hotel with the JACK LONDON INN which is located right down t...

We selected this hotel for our "Girl's Getaway" because we were going to a concert at the Fox Theater (Mayer Hawthorne) and wanted to stay somewhere close. We didn't know what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. Now this isn't one of those new modern hotels but it was clean & comfortable. We had 2 queen beds, a flat screen tv, microwave & refrigerator. Who could ask for anything more!!! We did need more pillows so we called the desk and they quickly brought us more pillows and towels too. We had a room which overlooked the swimming pool and although the BART station was close, we were not bothered by any noise. We all slept very well and the beds were oh so comfy. If you are looking for a "no frills" place to stay, I would highly recommend the Inn at Jack London Square. There is a little diner right in the same lot as the hotel and there are plenty of restaurants in that area as well. I would definitely stay there again!!!

Whenever I'm in Oakland I stay here. The parking is an extra $15 / night, but it is secured. There is a terrific coffee shop on the same property that will deliver to your room. You can walk to BART if you want (about 11 blocks) just 2 blocks from the JL Square Waterfront, or around the corner from Yoshi's and across the street from Evrett & Jones BBQ. There is also a movie theatre across the street. Just depends on what you have going on.

If you need a fridg you have to get a third floor room but you get train noise. Otherwise I suggest getting a second floor balcony room. Nice large flat screen TVs. There is a spotless swimming pool, free wifi, coffee in the room, and a clean exercise room. The area also has a free bus that travels along Broadway, close to Amtrak as well. I suggest calling for the best price rather than booking on-line.

Room Tip: 2nd floor balcony

We had a great room overlooking the pool and with a private balcony. The room was clean, and we loved the pillows. The staff was extremely courteous, helpful and friendly. The proximity to the waterfront was nice for a morning walk, and actually loved the sound of the nearby train. Will definitely stay there again next time we visit.

Room Tip: There are at least 8 rooms with private balconies-----a nicer touch than the open exterior corridor

We stayed at the Inn in early November while visiting for a concert. The beds were comfortable, the pillows not so much. The bathroom needed remodeling (looks to have 4-5 paint overs, with last job not so neat), and a better cleaning as we wouldn't use the bath/shower since it didn't appear clean. Since we were only staying the one night we didn't bother requesting another room. They do have the regular coffee pots that you can actually brew coffee in. The carpet also needed either a good shampoo or replacement. Other than the train, we had a good sleep. The parking is covered, a plus. The front desk staff were friendly and efficient. There is a great breakfast restaurant right next door and the location is convenient to attractions, restaurants, and downtown. This place should be $99/night.

Room Tip: Ask for a room NOT directly next to Amtrak train tracks.

The room was clean and pleasantly appointed, thought the single-serving coffee service was stingy.

The location near Jack London Square was convenient to my conference needs; however, it meant being near the train tracks, as well. Do not take a room on the south side of the property (toward the water, rooms 124/324-138-338). They face a noisy street and the train whistles occur regularly through the night, guaranteeing interrupted sleep.

One service disappointment was that I had written in advance to determine whether the morning shuttle would be able to drop me at my destination, and I re-confirmed upon check-in, the friendly clerk putting my name in the shuttle-reservation book. The next morning, I learned that the shuttle did not run on that day. However, the desk clerk did call and pay for a cab, resolving what could have been a problem.

I would stay again, but in a different part of the property.

Room Tip: Stay away from rooms on the south side (facing the direction of the water).

This place would be great for maybe $90 per night for a single. The pillows were almost like feather pillows, not the usual hard foam. Curved shower rod helps keep the curtain away. HBO, free wif-fi, coffee in room, walking distance to several good restaurants with bay views were pluses. Didn't use the pool, but is nicely set in middle of the "quad." So, what was wrong? Other than as noted, not much different from a Super 8. $15 separate fee to park my car? $140 for a single. And no coffee in the main lobby or the mezzanine lobby. Obviously, no rolls or snacks. Not even a good machine. So, if you want a second cup of coffee, you'd have to go to the desk, get a "pod" and take it back upstairs. Powdered "creamer" of course and one packet of sugar per package. Just inconvenient when I wanted a second cup with three sugars (and of course, real milk 1/2&1/2 etc). I was probably spoiled a bit by a $67 per night motel in Redwood City (yes, farther out of the city across the bay) the night before. If I hadn't been flying out of Oakland the next morning, I'd have returned there. All that said, if I were returning, I'd compare prices in the area, but would not hesitate to stay here if the price is competitive.
